Willits Named Brooks Wallace Award Semifinalist

April 22, 2026 | Baseball

NORMAN — Oklahoma junior shortstop Jaxon Willits has been named a semifinalist for the Brooks Wallace Award, presented annually to the best shortstop in college baseball by the College Baseball Foundation.

Willits, a three-year starter at short, is hitting .305 with four home runs and 34 RBIs on the year. In the field, Willits has 56 putouts and 84 assists to just one error for a .993 fielding percentage. The Fort Cobb, Okla., product has helped turn 20 double plays, a category where Oklahoma ranks top-40 in the country and first in the SEC in league play.

The junior has 22 career home runs and 115 RBIs to go with a .303 career batting average. In his three years at shortstop, Willits has a .971 fielding clip, committing just 14 errors in three seasons and 134 games started.

The semifinalist list honors 50 of the nation's top shortstops based on both their offensive and defensive production this season. The award is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27. Finalists for the award and the winner will be announced in June.

Willits and the No. 14 Sooners return to SEC action this weekend at No. 11 Auburn. The three-game series beginning Friday can be seen on SECN+ and heard on the radio via The REF 99.3 FM/1400 AM.
