NORMAN — No. 14 Oklahoma took game one of the series over Missouri Friday night by a final of 9-6 at Kimrey Family Stadium.
OU (24-12, 8-8 SEC) was powered by a season high four home runs and a nine-strikeout performance from starting right-handed pitcher LJ Mercurius.
Following a scoreless first inning, OU raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning courtesy of RBIs from Deiten Lachance, Dasan Harris, Jason Walk and Jaxon Willits.
Missouri (20-17, 3-13) got on the board at the top of the fourth via a solo home run. The Sooners quickly got the run back on their own solo shot from Harris, his first of the season.
The teams combined to trade five home runs the rest of the way, with Mizzou's Blaize Ward hitting a two-run shot at the top of the fifth to start the long ball flurry.
OU hit a trio of homers in the bottom of the seventh. Walk hit a two-run blast, his second of the season and second in the last three games, before solo shots from Trey Gambill and Camden Johnson concluded the OU scoring.
Mizzou plated three in the top of the ninth via single and two-run home run to bring the final to 9-6.
Mercurius went six innings and earned his sixth win of the season, surrendering three runs on six hits to go with his nine strikeouts and no walks. Out of the bullpen, Xander Mercurius (1.0 IP), Kadyn Leon (1.0) and Mason Bixby (1.0) finished the job with Leon and Bixby each collected a strikeout.
