Six Sooners Set for ITA All-American Championships

NORMAN – The Oklahoma women's tennis team will kick off its 2026 fall season at the ITA All-American Championships, set for Sept. 19-27 in Cary, N.C.
The tournament begins Saturday, Sept. 19, with pre-qualifying singles and doubles rounds. Qualifying matches will follow Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22, with main draw competition running Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
Six Sooners will represent OU in both singles and doubles competition. Laura Brunkel and Sara Shumate will open play in the pre-qualifying singles draw Saturday, with Brunkel at 9:30 a.m. CT and Shumate at 1 p.m. CT.
In the singles qualifying draw, OU will be represented by No. 91 Chloé Noël, No. 108 Zoie Epps, No. 109 Salakthip Ounmuang and No. 114 Gloriana Nahum, with play beginning Monday, Sept. 21.
In doubles, Brunkel will team up with Noël in the pre-qualifying draw, beginning at 2:30 p.m. CT Saturday. In the qualifying doubles draw, No. 40-ranked duo Epps and Ounmuang will compete Monday, Sept. 21. The pair are also the third alternates for the doubles main draw. No. 39-ranked Nahum and Shumate will compete in the doubles main draw, which is set to begin Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The tournament holds NCAA implications, as the eight singles quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists, along with the four doubles semifinalists and the consolation champion, in each gender will receive automatic entry into the NCAA Division I Individual Championships, slated for Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Ga.
This year marks the 11th consecutive season that Oklahoma has sent at least one player to the ITA All-American Championships. In 2023, Dana Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina made program history by winning seven consecutive matches, including three in the qualifying draw, to become the first Sooner duo to capture a doubles title at the event. Head coach Audra Cohen is also a former champion, having won the singles title in 2004.
