Barber Leads Sooners in Opening Round at SEC Championship

April 17, 2026 | Women's Golf

BELLEAIR, Fla. – Oklahoma women's golf opened SEC Championship play with a solid first round Friday, sitting tied for seventh at even-par at Pelican Golf Club.

The championship is contested over 54 holes of stroke play, with the top eight teams advancing to match play. Through 18 holes, the Sooners are inside the cut line and just four shots off the lead with two rounds to play before the cut is made.

"We had a solid start today," head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "There were a lot of good moments, and we put ourselves in a good position heading into the weekend. We need to continue to build on today and play well to finish inside the top eight."

Senior Savannah Barber paced Oklahoma with a 2-under 68 and sits tied for seventh individually. Her round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 16th that moved the Sooners back to even and above the cut line. She trails a three-way tie for the lead at 4-under.

Gracie Mayo added a 1-under 69 and is tied for 16th, giving Oklahoma a pair of under-par scores, while Audrey Rischer's even-par 70 placed her tied for 21st.

Reagan Chaney carded a 3-over 73 to sit tied for 46th, and freshman Satongkan (Earn) Thiengsri rounded out the lineup with an 11-over 81.

No. 14 Vanderbilt and No. 4 Texas A&M share the team lead at 4-under, with No. 3 Florida, No. 5 Texas and No. 21 Ole Miss one shot back at 3-under. No. 6 Arkansas is sixth at 2-under, followed by Oklahoma and Mississippi State at even-par. The Sooners hold a three-shot cushion over ninth-place No. 8 Auburn entering round two.

Oklahoma tees off Saturday at 7:50 am CT alongside Mississippi State and Auburn.
