Women's Golf Closes Strong, Finishes Fifth at Carmel Cup

August 31, 2025 | Women's Golf

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma women's golf surged up the leaderboard in the final round of the Carmel Cup, earning its sixth consecutive top-five finish in a regular season event, a streak that dates to last year.

The Sooners (5, +26) posted a 1-over 361 at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Sunday, moving past TCU, Texas Tech and Mississippi State. Three Sooners finished inside the top 20, led by senior Savannah Barber in a tie for eighth.

"I'm really proud of the way that our team finished the weekend strong," head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "We struggled a little bit on Friday and Saturday, but we played well today and created some momentum for us moving forward. We'll get back to Norman, work on some things and be ready to compete in a few weeks at Belmar in Norman in front of our fans."

Barber (T8, E) was steady throughout the week, turning in rounds of 74-71-71 on the par-72 course to be one of just 10 golfers to finish at even par or better. She started strong in the final round, playing her first 12 holes at 4-under, before three late bogeys dropped her back to 1-under for the day and even for the tournament. The Fort Worth, Texas, native now owns eight top-10 finishes and 17 top-20 results in her Sooner career.

"Savannah was just solid for us all week," Drouin-Luttrell continued. "She is just someone that's worked so hard for four years and is really seeing the benefit of that work. She's got big goals for her senior season and we know she can help us reach our goals. I'm happy that she opened her senior year on a high note."

Reagan Chaney (T19, +5) used an even-par round on Sunday to climb into the top 20 for her 10th career top-20 finish. She shared 19th with Isabelle Schlick, who fired a 1-over 73 in the final round to secure her first top-20 finish in a 54-hole event since placing third at the 2023 Hurricane Invitational.

Audrey Rischer jumped eight spots on the leaderboard Sunday with an even-par round, finishing tied for 27th at 8-over.

MaKayla Tyrrell (T36, +11) and Gracie Mayo (T46, +15) rounded out the Oklahoma lineup.

The Sooners' fifth-place finish marks their best result in four all-time appearances at the Carmel Cup.

No. 7 Texas A&M captured the team title in dominant fashion, finishing 13-under and 26 strokes clear of runner-up Vanderbilt. Four of the top five teams on the final leaderboard came from the Southeastern Conference. Texas A&M's Cayetana Fernandez Garcia-Poggio claimed the individual crown at 8-under, fending off a crowded individual leaderboard.

Next, OU returns home for the 12th annual Schooner Fall Classic, scheduled for Sept. 20-22 at Belmar Golf Club in Norman.
