Barber Wins, Sooners Finish Second in Tulsa

October 14, 2025 | Women's Golf

TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma senior golfer Savannah Barber led the Sooners to a runner-up finish at the Route 66 Invitational Honoring Dale McNamara with a record-breaking individual victory on Tuesday.

Barber's 54-hole score of 202 (-11) set a program record for lowest winning score by a Sooner, surpassing Julienne Soo's 203 from the 2017 Clover Cup. It marked Barber's first career win in a 54-hole event. The Fort Worth, Texas, native previously won an 18-hole stroke play tournament at Jimmie Austin in Norman last year.

"Really happy with our team's resolve this week," head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell said. "We gave it our best run over these last two rounds but couldn't quite make up the ground to catch Arkansas, who's a really good team. All in all, I'm proud of our team's fight and glad we got a good result."

The Sooners (2, -8) entered Tuesday's final round 10 shots behind No. 8 Arkansas but nearly completed the comeback, finishing just three strokes shy of the Razorbacks (1, -11).

Barber (1, -11) fired rounds of 68-66-68 at the par-71 Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa to take the individual title. Tied with Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin at 10-under on the final hole, Barber stuck her approach to inside five feet and rolled in the winning birdie. The win earned her an exemption into a Women's All Pro Tour event next summer. She tallied 14 birdies and just two bogeys or worse across the tournament, including a bogey-free 66 in round two. It marked her third top-10 finish in four fall events.

"Savannah was incredible all tournament long," Drouin-Luttrell added. "She's been close to winning so many times and to see her finish it off like that was really special. This is a testament to her hard work and development over the last four years."

Senior Gracie Mayo (3, -7) posted her best finish of the season, placing third after rounds of 73-66-67. Her play over the final 36 holes helped OU fire back-to-back rounds of 276 (-8), its best scores against par this fall, vaulting the Sooners up the leaderboard.

Reagan Chaney shot 76-70-70 to tie for 13th at 3-over, marking her fourth straight top-20 finish this fall and the 13th of her career.

Raychel Nelke and Satonkan (Earn) Thiengsri competed as individuals and tied for 25th at 7-over. Isabelle Schlick and Meg Tilma tied for 39th at 11-over to round out the team's lineup.

Oklahoma and Arkansas were the only teams to finish under par. Host Tulsa placed third at 17-over, 25 shots back of the Sooners. Florida Gulf Coast (+22) and Rutgers (+24) rounded out the top five.

The runner-up finish was Oklahoma's best result of the fall and its top placement since winning the Paradise Invitational in February 2025. The team's 54-hole score of 844 was its best at a regular-season event since the 2024 Westbrook Invitational and ranks 10th in program history.

The Sooners return to action Oct. 19-20 at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas. OU finished third at last year's tournament behind top-10 performances from Chaney and Mayo.
