August 31, 2025 | Men's Golf

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.Jase Summy delivered a memorable performance on Sunday, storming back to claim co-medalist honors at the season-opening Carmel Cup at Spyglass Hill Golf Club.

The senior from Keller, Texas, entered the final round four shots off the lead but fired a 6-under 66 to finish at 11-under for the week and share the title with Walker Cup teammate Ethan Fang of Oklahoma State.

As a team, No. 5/8 Oklahoma posted the low round of the day with an 8-under 352, climbing into a tie for third at 11-under. The Sooners have now finished in the top five in 11 of their last 12 regular season events.

A preseason All-American and the world's No. 5-ranked amateur, Summy played the back nine bogey-free at 5-under to chase down Fang and secure the third win of his career. He now trails only Anthony Kim (5), Logan McAllister (4) and Grant Hirschman (4) on OU's all-time wins list.

Summy signed for rounds of 69-70-66, highlighted by a tournament-best 19 birdies. The victory extended a remarkable six-month stretch that includes six top-10 finishes, collegiate wins at the Maridoe Intercollegiate and Carmel Cup, a championship at the Western Amateur, a run to the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur and a fourth-place finish in the Elite Amateur Series. He also earned selections to represent the United States in both the Walker Cup and Palmer Cup. For his OU career, he now owns 41 rounds in the 60s, 17 top-20 finishes, 13 top-10s and nine top-five showings.

Ryder Cowan, also a preseason All-American, tied for 13th at 3-under. The junior from Edmond, Okla., rolled in 11 birdies and posted 35 pars, tied for the 13th most in the field. He has now recorded 15 top-20 finishes in 26 career tournaments.

Matthew Troutman surged on Sunday with a 4-under 68 that vaulted him 13 spots up the leaderboard. The sophomore rattled off four birdies and an eagle over a six-hole stretch on the front nine to finish tied for 15th at 1-under. He has competed in 13 events as a Sooner and owns nine top-20 results.

Clark Van Gaalen provided a steady even-par round to help OU secure bronze as the sophomore finished tied for 25th at 1-over.

PJ Maybank III tied for 33rd at 7-over and Cameron Cheek tied for 42nd at 12-over to round out the OU lineup. The Sooners tallied 61 birdies as a team, the third most in the field.

Vanderbilt captured the team title at 17-under, while Oklahoma State finished second at 14-under. The Sooners shared third with Arkansas.

Oklahoma returns to action Sept. 15-16 at the Invitational at the Honors Course in Chattanooga, Tenn.
