PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma posted one of the low rounds of the day on Saturday, moving into solo fourth after 36 holes at the Carmel Cup.
The Sooners (4, -3) carded a 354 (-6) at the par-72 Spyglass Hill Golf Club in Pebble Beach and have four golfers inside the top 25. Three of Oklahoma's counting scores were under par, led by 2025 Freshman All-American
Clark Van Gaalen's three-under 69.
Van Gaalen (T23, +1) recorded the sixth-best round of the afternoon with his 69 (-3). The sophomore bogeyed the third and 18th holes but scattered five birdies in between to notch the low number.
Jase Summy (T6, -5) posted his second consecutive round under par, firing a 70 (-2) to reach 5-under for the week and remain in contention for his third career win. The preseason All-American enters Sunday's final round tied for sixth and four shots behind Vanderbilt's Wells Williams (1, -9), who holds the lead.
OU's third under-par round came from
PJ Maybank III (T23, -1), who holed out for eagle on 16 and added a birdie on 17 to finish with a 71 (-1).
Ryder Cowan (T7, -3) slipped into seventh place in the individual standings after an even-par 72 on Saturday, leaving him 3-under for the week.
Matthew Troutman (T28, +3) and
Cameron Cheek (T44, +10) rounded out the Sooners' lineup.
Vanderbilt remains in control of the team race with a 36-hole total of 22-under holding a 13-shot lead entering the final round.
The Sooners tee off Sunday looking to secure their 11th top-five finish in their last 12 regular-season tournaments dating back to last year.
