NORMAN – Three Oklahoma men's golfers earned preseason All-America recognition this week from Golfweek and Golf Channel as the Sooners were named a consensus preseason top-10 team.
Senior
Jase Summy was named a unanimous First Team Preseason All-American by both outlets, while junior
Ryder Cowan picked up second-team honors from Golfweek and an honorable mention from Golf Channel. Sophomore
Clark Van Gaalen was recognized as an honorable mention selection by Golf Channel.
As a team, the Sooners were ranked fifth nationally in Golf Channel's preseason poll, seventh in the GCAA Coaches Poll and ninth by Golfweek. Under 17th-year head coach
Ryan Hybl, the winningest coach in program history, Oklahoma has advanced to the NCAA Championship in 14 straight seasons and is ranked in the preseason top 10 for the ninth time in the last 10 years.
Summy enters his final season in Norman looking to build on one of the best years in program history. The Keller, Texas, native enjoyed a strong summer, winning the Western Amateur, advancing to the Round of 32 at the United States Amateur and finishing fourth in the Elite Amateur Series. He begins the season ranked No. 5 in both the World Amateur Golf Ranking and the PGA Tour University preseason rankings. Last year, Summy earned consensus second-team All-America status and first-team All-Southeastern Conference recognition after leading the Sooners with a 70.35 scoring average. He set a program record with 20 rounds in the 60s and posted eight top-20 finishes, seven top-10s, four top-five finishes and one victory. Over the last two weeks, he was named to Team USA for the Walker Cup and was featured on the Haskins Award preseason watch list, which honors the nation's top collegiate golfer.
Cowan, a native of Edmond, Okla., is coming off a breakout sophomore season that saw him earn 2025 All-America honors. A Haskins Award preseason watch list selection last week, he competed in every event for the Sooners in 2024-25, finishing with a 70.51 scoring average, the second-lowest mark on the team. Cowan tallied 10 top-20 finishes and six top-10s, helping Oklahoma win five tournaments and advance to match play at the NCAA Championships for the seventh time since 2016.
Van Gaalen, from Turlock, Calif., was a Freshman All-American last season and earned honorable mention All-America recognition from PING. He surged during the spring schedule, finishing the year ranked No. 59 nationally and earning a spot on the NCAA All-Tournament Team after placing among the top 15 at the national championship. Van Gaalen was the runner-up at the NCAA Amherst Regional and at the Ka'anapali Classic, where his 197 (16 under) set an Oklahoma freshman scoring record.
Oklahoma opens its 2025–26 season today at the Carmel Cup in Pebble Beach, Calif.
