NORMAN – For the 12th time under head coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell, Oklahoma women's golf is headed to the postseason as the Sooners were named the No. 6 seed in the NCAA Norman Regional, set for May 5-7 at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.
The top five teams and the lowest-scoring individual not on a qualifying team will advance to the NCAA Championships, held May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. This marks the seventh time Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club has hosted a men's or women's regional and the third time in the last four years.
"We can't wait to take the course in front of our friends, family, and fans, it's huge for us," said Drouin-Luttrell. "The postseason feels like an entirely new chapter, and we're determined to step up and perform at the level we know we're capable of."
Once regional play begins, Oklahoma will look to secure its 10th all-time NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2018.
The Sooners are enjoying their strongest spring season in over a decade, posting five straight top-five finishes for the first time since 2014. The stretch was highlighted by Oklahoma's first tournament win since 2018 at the Paradise Invitational, where junior
Gracie Mayo claimed medalist honors. Freshman
Audrey Rischer added a victory at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic and earned two SEC Golfer of the Week awards, while senior
Reagan Chaney picked up conference recognition after finishing runner-up at the Jim West Invitational in the fall.
Oklahoma will compete for one of five qualifying spots at the regional, with junior
Savannah Barber aiming to build on her runner-up finish at last year's Las Vegas Regional. The Sooners last advanced to the NCAA Championship in 2018, placing 20th. Their best national finish came in 2014 with a fourth-place showing.
OU's home course, Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club, was originally designed by Perry Maxwell in the 1950s on land that once served as an annex to the Norman Naval Air Station. A redesign by Bob Cupp in 1996, supported by Jimmie Austin and other donors, modernized the course. In 2017, former OU golfer Tripp Davis led additional renovations to the layout and facilities. The course has hosted several high-level events, including NCAA Women's Regionals in 2013 and 2019.
At La Costa, the NCAA Championships open with three rounds of stroke play. The top 15 teams and the lowest nine individuals on non-advancing teams will then play a fourth round to determine the individual champion. After 72 holes, the top eight teams advance to match play to decide the national champion.
