HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Behind top-five finishes from Savannah Barber and Reagan Chaney, the Oklahoma women's golf team placed sixth at the University of Oklahoma Intercollegiate presented by PDI on Tuesday.
Originally slated for 54 holes, the tournament at Prairie Dunes Country Club was shortened to 36 holes due to weather. Teams completed the opening round Tuesday morning before wrapping up the event in the afternoon.
The Sooners (6, +34) opened with a 300 (+20) in Monday's first round before closing strong with a 294 (+14), the fifth-best team score of the final round, to climb into sixth place. No. 13 Florida claimed the team title at 13-over par, winning by seven strokes.
Barber (T4, +4) earned her first top-five finish of the season and the fourth of her career, posting rounds of 75 (+5) and 69 (-1). Her second-round 69 was one of just three under-par scores recorded in the 78-player field.
Chaney (T4, +4) matched Barber for fourth after carding rounds of 71 (+1) and 73 (+3). The senior from Ardmore, Okla., notched her second straight top-five finish, following a T5 showing at the Schooner Fall Classic. She now owns a team-leading seven career top-five results.
Isabelle Schlick (T25, +9) contributed two counting scores for the Sooners, while Meg Tilma (T54, +17) and Audrey Rischer (T73, +25) rounded out the lineup. Competing as unattached individuals, Santokan (Earn) Thiengsri (T43, +14) and Gracie Mayo (T38, +12) finished outside of the top 30.
Oklahoma ranked fourth in the field in both birdies and pars.
In addition to the Gators' team win, Florida's Megan Propeck was the only player to finish under par, taking medalist honors at 1-under.
The Sooners' sixth-place finish snapped a streak of seven consecutive regular-season top-five results — the program's longest such run since 2012-13 and 2013-14.
OU returns to action next week at the Dale McNamara Invitational, beginning Monday, Oct. 13, at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa. Last season at Cedar Ridge, the Sooners finished third with Chaney sharing fourth.
