Men's Tennis Upends No. 18 Tennessee for Second Straight Ranked Win

February 28, 2025 | Men's Tennis

NORMAN – The No. 26 Oklahoma men's tennis team knocked off No. 18 Tennessee 4-2 in front of a packed Headington Family Tennis Center on Friday night.

It marked OU's second ranked win this week after topping No. 37 Arkansas by a 6-1 score on Monday in its Southeastern Conference opener.

The Sooners came out sharp on Friday, claiming their 10th doubles point of the season. For the second consecutive match, freshman Alejandro Melero and sophomore Asahi Harazaki were quick to give OU an advantage with a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Following closely behind, Kholo Montsi and Luis Alvarez defeated Shunsuke Mitsui and Alan Jesudason on court two (6-2) to clinch the doubles point for OU.

The Volunteers rattled off a pair of straight set wins to open singles, starting with No. 16 Mitsui over Montsi (6-1, 6-1) on court two followed by No. 31 Kotzen handling No. 123 Oscar Lacides at the top court (6-2, 6-2).

Melero got the rally started for the Crimson and Cream with a straight-set victory over Ian Cruz (6-4, 6-0) on court six.

On court five, Jordan Hasson secured the third point after beating Jan Kobierski (6-4, 6-2). With the win, Hasson improved his season dual record to 7-0.

Notching his first ranked win and clinching the match for the Sooners, Orel Kimhi delivered with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 95 Alejandro Moreno at the four spot.

The Sooners return to the court on Sunday against No. 12 Texas A&M. First serve from the Headington Family Tennis Center is scheduled for noon CT. Sunday's competition marks the annual Bark in the Park match. Fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to enjoy an afternoon of tennis and can enjoy a free cookout while supplies last.
