No. 26 Sooners Fall in 4-3 Heartbreaker to No. 12 Texas A&M

NORMAN – The No. 26 Oklahoma men's tennis team battled in a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to No. 12 Texas A&M in a match that came down to the wire Sunday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
With the match tied at 3-all and all eyes on court five, senior Jordan Hasson battled back from a first set loss to send the match to a decisive third set. Trailing 5-3 late, Hasson came up just short in his match, 3-6, 7-5, 3-6, as the Sooners dropped their first SEC match of the season. OU is now 9-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
In doubles, the Sooners were in close competition with the Aggies. Oklahoma pulled ahead when junior Luis Alvarez and sophomore Kholo Montsi went up 5-4 and soon after won the match, 6-4. On court one, junior Bruno Nhavene and freshman Oscar Lacides went back and forth with the Aggie duo. The Sooner pair went ahead, 4-3, off a break point to gain their first lead of the match. After the match tied at five games all, Nhavene and Lacides won two straight games to take their match, 7-5, and clinch the doubles point. On court three, sophomore Asahi Harazaki and freshman Alejandro Melero were ahead 5-4 when the match was abandoned.
Melero fell short at the six line, 5-7, 3-6, tying the duel. Freshman Orel Kimhi put Oklahoma ahead with a 6-4, 6-3 win to extend his win streak to four matches. The match tied when Montsi narrowly dropped his match 4-6, 4-6 at the two line.
Lacides came away with a monumental win at the primary spot as he shifted the momentum back in favor of the Sooners. His straight-set win over a ranked opponent marked his ninth win of the season.
With just two matches remaining, Alvarez came up short and the Aggies tied the match once again before taking the win on court five.
UP NEXT
The Sooners host the Florida Gators on Thursday, March 6, at 5 p.m. before heading on the road for three matches. Oklahoma faces Mississippi State on Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m. CT before heading to Auburn on Thursday, March 13. The team then treks to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. CT.
