NORMAN — No. 16 Oklahoma completed a two-game midweek sweep of Texas Southern with a 5-4 win Wednesday night.

After the Sooners (8-0) run-ruled the Tigers (1-8) 15-4 Tuesday night, Wednesday's game was a tight contest with TSU rallying from a 5-0 deficit late in the game. OU closer Dylan Crooks slammed the door on the comeback attempt with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth, stranding the tying and go-ahead runs at first and second.

OU improved to 8-0, continuing the program's best start since a 10-0 start to the 2013 season.

Following a scoreless first that saw OU freshman right-handed pitcher Landon Victorian get his first start on the mound, Oklahoma scored the game's first run in the second. Following a fielder's choice and singles from junior Dayton Tockey and freshman Drew Dickerson, junior Dawson Willis hit into a fielder's choice that allowed frosh Kyle Branch to race home.

A pair of scoreless innings ensued before Oklahoma pushed one across in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single from Branch to make it 2-0.

The Sooners scored three runs on two hits in the seventh. Following a walk drawn by junior Trey Gambill, redshirt sophomore Sam Christiansen singled him home on a hit through the right side. Two batters later, Tockey brought Christiansen home with a double off the wall in center before scoring on a wild pitch to conclude the inning's scoring.

Texas Southern scored four across the final two innings to bring the final to 5-4, scoring runs on a pair of singles and double in the eighth and an RBI single in the ninth. Crooks earned his second save of the season in the ninth, stranding a pair with two strikeouts.

Oklahoma utilized seven pitchers in the contest with freshman Michael Catalano earning his first win, hurling two scoreless frames with one hit allowed and four strikeouts to no walks. The starter Victorian went two innings and struck out one, allowing no runs and just three hits and a walk. Relievers Beau Sampson (2.0 IP), Catalano (2.0), James Hitt (1.0), Jason Bodin (0.2), Jaden Barfield (0.2) and Crooks (0.2) combined to finish the game. The pitching staff combined for 11 strikeouts.

At the plate, four Sooners had multi-hit days in Christiansen, Tockey, Dickerson and sophomore Jason Walk.

The Sooners continue a five-game homestand with a three-game series vs. CSUN this weekend, Feb. 28-March 2. First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 4 p.m. CT. The series can be seen on SECN+ and heard in Oklahoma on 1400 AM/99.3 FM The REF or nationwide on The Varsity Network app.
