2025 MLB Draft Central

Oklahoma Baseball continues its pipeline to the pros as several Sooners look to hear their name called in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft beginning Sunday, July 13 at 5 p.m. CT. Rounds 1-3 can be seen Sunday on ESPN and MLB Network with Rounds 4-20 starting Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT on MLB.com.

The Sooners' 2025 draft class is highlighted by five top-250 prospects according to MLB Pipeline: signee SS Eli Willits (No. 5), junior RHP Kyson Witherspoon (No. 10), signee OF Alec Blair (No. 52) junior C Easton Carmichael (No. 93), junior RHP Malachi Witherspoon (No. 121) and junior LHP Cade Crossland (No. 207).

Draft History

Entering the 2025 Draft, a total of 307 Sooners have been selected in the MLB Draft, a number that ranks top 10 among all colleges. OU has had at least one player drafted every year since 1970, and at least one player selected in the top 10 rounds every year since 2011. All-time, Oklahoma has produced 21 first-round picks.

OU has produced 40 draft picks under head coach Skip Johnson, including 27 pitchers and three first-round picks. With Cade Horton's selection at No. 7 overall in the 2022 draft, Oklahoma has produced three first rounders in the last seven drafts (also Cade Cavalli by the Washington Nationals at No. 22 in 2020 and Kyler Murray by the Oakland Athletics at No. 9 in 2018).

Kyson Witherspoon

Draft Day: A consensus first-team All-American, Golden Spikes Award semifinalist and All-SEC First Team honoree, Kyson Witherspoon finished his two-year OU career ranked 18th in program history for career strikeouts with 214. His 10 single-season wins in 2025 ranked 14th in school history and 124 single-season strikeouts was 13th all-time. Malachi Witherspoon

Draft Day: Malachi Witherspoon went in the second round to the Detroit Tigers, marking the second set of twins to get drafted out of Oklahoma, joining Ryan and Damon Minor (1996). M. Witherspoon made 36 appearances through two seasons in Norman, moving into a starter role as a junior in 2025 and compiling 91 strikeouts, second on the team only to his brother. (Read More)

Draft Day: Carmichael, a two-time All-American and first-team selection in 2025, departed Norman ranked in the program top 20 in several categories including career RBIs (7th, 174), home runs (11th, 30), exra-base hits (11th, 80), total bases (11th, 385) and hits (16th, 232). Cade Crossland

Draft Day: OU's third weekend starter from 2025 to be selected, Crossland made 16 appearances in his one season in Norman, making 13 starts (5-5 record). Finished with 84 strikeouts to rank third on the team. Closed his Sooner career with a nine-strikeout performance in 7.0 IP vs. Nebraska at regionals.

Draft Day: An All-Big 12 Honorable Mention (2023) and three-year Sooner that made 62 appearances and 19 starts throughout his time in Norman, Hitt struck out 108 batters in 140.2 innings pitched. As a senior in 2025, Hitt held a 3.82 ERA and 3-0 record to go with 35 strikeouts in 35.1 IP. His 28 relief appearances in 2025 ranked second on the team and fifth in the SEC.

Draft Day: A Sooner for just a season, Tate missed majority of 2025 due to injury before returning for postseason play. In his two appearances (5.0 IP), the righty struck out six and surrendered just one earned run and one walk.

Round 15 | Pick 437

Draft Day: A two-year Sooner that served as OU's closer in 2025, Crooks put together an All-American campaign his senior season with 16 saves, good for second in the country and second for a single season in program history. Also a finalist for NCBWA Stopper of the Year, Crooks' 16 saves in 2025 alone ranked sixth in school history for career saves. In his two years in Norman, he held a 2.43 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 59.1 IP, allowing just 16 earned runs and 13 walks.
