Cheruiyot, Jeruto Claim All-SEC Honors at Conference Meet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Led by All-SEC performances by freshmen Leah Jeruto and Thobias Cheruiyot, the Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up the SEC Cross Country Championships Friday morning at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
 
The OU men placed ninth in the 8K, registering 221 points and the women took 12th in the 6K with 283 points.
 
Jeruto recorded 19:31.3 to finish ninth in the women's race, earning the Second Team All-SEC award and the best conference placement by an OU runner since 2018. Graduate transfer Megan Johnson was the Sooners' next-best finisher for the women, grabbing 49th with a time of 20:17.8. Senior Gabi Barrera followed in 59th (20:27.6).
 
Cheruiyot posted a 22:45.7 time, finishing 10th for Second Team All-SEC honors and the best conference position by a Sooner since 2016. Fifth-year runner Fernando Morales finished 32nd (23:33.5) and senior Colin Caso placed 38th (23:39.5).

The Sooners will take two weeks off before visiting Peoria, Ill., for the NCAA Midwest Regional on Nov. 15, racing for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23.
