KNOXVILLE, TENN. — The Oklahoma men's and women's cross country teams made strides at the SEC XC Championships Friday in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Cherokee Farm Cross Country Course. The Sooner men took home third, highlighted by freshman
Evans Biwott's fourth-place finish.
OU's men raced an 8K to kick off the championship, finishing in third with 126 points, tying for their highest-ever conference finish. Biwott paced with the front of the pack the entirety of the race, finishing the 8K in a PR of 23:22.4, securing him fourth place and All-SEC First Team and All-Freshman Team honors. Following Biwott, freshman
Ronald Ngetich finished in 23:37.9, earning him 11th place and All-SEC Second Team and All-Freshman Team honors. Freshman
Shadrack Kiptoo's 24:05.9 allowed him to finish 27th, also earning him a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team. Other scorers for the Sooners include 2024 Second Team All-SEC member
Thobias Cheruiyot (24:00.9) and
Adrian Stuphan (24:51.9).
"I'm incredibly proud of the men today," said co-head cross country coach Jay Weaver. "We've been talking all season about making sure that we're ready for the moment and ready to rise to the occasion, and I think the team did that today. I'm tremendously proud of all the work they've put in to get to this point and this is another big step towards our ultimate goal which is to be on the starting line in Columbia."
The women tied their result from last year, finishing 12th with 287 points. Sophomore
Sanae Hassnaoui led the Sooners, finishing the 6K in 20:39.18 and coming in 22nd, while 2024 Second Team All-SEC member
Leah Jeruto clocked 20:45.25 to finish 25th. Other scorers for the women include
Abby Jepchirchir (21:54.04),
Erin O'Brien (22:12.13) and
Sophie Coughlin (22:24.57)

Next, the Sooners will travel to Stillwater, Okla., for the NCAA Midwest Regionals at the Geriner Family Cross Country Course on Friday, Nov. 14. Teams with qualifying times at regionals will advance to the 2025 NCAA XC Championships in Columbia, Mo., on Nov. 22.
