Tyus Hooks
  • Title:
    Program Coordinator and Assistant Coach
Tyus Hooks enters his third season as an assistant coach and fourth year overall with the Oklahoma women’s basketball program in 2024-25.

Hooks joined the Sooners as program coordinator in 2022-23, assisting with recruiting and off-court recruiting strategy before being elevated to assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.

In 2024-25, Hooks helped lead Oklahoma to a 27-8 record and its first Sweet 16 appearance since 2013. The Sooners thrived in their inaugural SEC campaign, finishing 11-5 and finished ranked 11th in the final AP poll. Hooks played a key role in developing All-SEC selections Raegan Beers and Payton Verhulst while continuing to make a major impact on the recruiting trail, aiding in the signing of the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class, highlighted by No. 1 overall prospect and Gatorade National Player of the Year Aaliyah Chavez.

In his first season on the bench, Hooks helped guide OU to a 23-10 record, a Big 12 regular season title and a second-round NCAA Tournament appearance. He was instrumental in the development of Big 12 Co-Player of the Year Skylar Vann and Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Payton Verhulst. His recruiting efforts helped land a 2024 signing class that featured ESPN HoopGurlz top-70 prospects Zya Vann and Caya Smith.

As program coordinator in 2022-23, Hooks contributed to a 26-7 season that included a share of the program’s first Big 12 regular season title since 2009 and a second round NCAA Tournament berth. Oklahoma finished among the nation’s top offenses, led by All-Americans Madi Williams and Taylor Robertson.

Before joining the OU staff, Hooks spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan under former Sooner Fred Castro. He began his collegiate career as an undergraduate manager at Ole Miss.
