Dan Cavanaugh joined Oklahoma Athletics in 2001 and serves as the Director of Athletics Broadcasting.

In this role, he produces live games and studio shows for Sooner Sports TV, produces Sooner Football with Brent Venables, shoots video, edits and produces content for use on shows, games, in-venue boards and digital platforms. Throughout his time at OU, he has produced over 1500 studio shows and live games; and continues to help mentor students to develop into future sports broadcasting careers.

Prior to his time with OU, he served as the Sports Producer at WDAF TV Fox 4 in Kansas City, Missouri from 1999-2001. In that role, he produced the nightly sportscasts at 5, 6, 9 and 10 PM, and produced the weekly Chiefs head coach TV show.

Prior to WDAF, he served as a sports producer and videographer from 1990 to 1999 at KMIZ TV in Columbia, Missouri. In that role, he coordinated high school football coverage and produced a weekly Sunday night sports show.

Concurrently, he served as a sports reporter for KFRU Radio from 1995 to 1999.

Cavanaugh earned his bachelors degree in 1990 from the University of Missouri in communications/radio, television and film. While at Mizzou, he was a member of the Marching Mizzou Drumline.

His family in Norman includes his wife, Lisa, who has served as the meet director for Oklahoma Gymnastics since 2002. Outside of work, he is an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals, and is an avid sports memorabilia collector, specifically game-worn jerseys, and has a collection perhaps rivaling any other of game-worn Royals jerseys.
