Oklahoma Wins Two, Forces Winner-Take-All Regional Final Monday

May 31, 2026 | Baseball

ATLANTA — Facing elimination, Oklahoma forced a winner-take-all regional final with a pair of wins on Sunday at the NCAA Atlanta Regional.

The Sooners (35-22) started the day with a 15-5 victory over The Citadel (36-26) in an elimination game before turning around and coming back from a six-run deficit to beat host and No. 2 national seed Georgia Tech (50-10) by a final of 15-8.

OU scored a combined 30 runs on the day on 32 hits with eight extra-base hits, including five home runs. OU's 15 runs on 18 hits in the nightcap vs. Georgia Tech were the most runs and hits the Yellow Jackets have surrendered this season.

GAME ONE | OU 15, CIT 5

In the first game of the day, Oklahoma put up 15 runs on 14 hits, powered by a five-run third and seven-run fourth inning. Jason Walk led off the game with his fourth home run of the season and the Sooners never turned back, scoring in four of the first five innings. Brendan Brock, Trey Gambill and Dasan Harris all registered three-RBI days, while eight Sooners had a hit in the contest.

On the bump vs. Citadel, freshman Nick Wesloski (1-1) went a career-long seven innings, blowing past his previous high of 3.1 innings pitched. The righty surrendered three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts to two walks. Senior Reid Hensley and sophomore Jaden Barfield finished the job, hurling one scoreless inning each.

GAME TWO | OU 15, GT 8

In the nightcap vs. host Georgia Tech, OU fell behind 8-2 through three-and-a-half innings before scoring 13 unanswered runs to finish the game and force a winner-take-all Game 7 on Tuesday at 2 p.m. CT.

Georgia Tech went up early on a two-run home run in the first inning, answered by OU's Brock with his own two-run shot to left. The Yellow Jackets would pour in five runs in the third and one in the fourth to push the lead to six runs.

The Sooner bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth, scoring eight runs on seven hits including three home runs. Brock led off the inning with his second homer of the game. Consecutive RBI knocks from Kyle Branch and Walk brought OU within three. Two batters later with the bases loaded, Deiten Lachance launched a go-ahead grand slam to deep right field to push OU in front by one. Two batters later, Trey Gambill took his turn going yard, hitting his second of the weekend to right field.

Following two scoreless innings, OU plated one in the seventh on an RBI groundout from Walk before scoring four in the eighth via Brock single, Harris sacrifice fly, Branch single and Walk single.

OU's pitching was highlighted by a combined six scoreless frames from Gavyn Jones and LJ Mercurius. Jones earned his first win of the season on the mound, going two innings of scoreless ball with one hit and one walk to go with three strikeouts.

Mercurius earned his second save of the weekend, going four shutout innings and surrendering just one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. Mercurius' exceptional outing comes a day after throwing three scoreless innings in OU's regional-opening victory over The Citadel.
