Sooners Split Saturday with Vols

May 16, 2026 | Baseball

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma split the final two games of the series vs. Tennessee in Oklahoma City on Saturday.

After Friday's game two was suspended in the bottom of the seventh due to lightning with Tennessee on top 5-3, the Volunteers (37-19, 15-15) completed the victory Saturday, taking the game and series with a 9-4 win.

The Sooners (32-20, 14-16) won the series finale by a final of 12-9, powered by a three-home run game from junior Deiten Lachance. He became the first Sooner with a three-homer game since 2000.

In the conclusion of game two, the Volunteers plated four runs across the eighth and ninth, while Oklahoma plated one in the eighth on Dasan Harris' third triple of the season to bring the final to 9-4. Friday starter Xander Mercurius took the loss, going five innings and surrendering five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks to go with six strikeouts.

GAME THREE | OU 12, UT 9

The regular season finale saw OU score double-digit runs for the 13th time this season, never surrendering the lead after a six-run first inning.

OU's six-run first began with a solo home run from Lachance, his first of three in the game. OU plated five more in the frame via a pair of errors, a bases loaded walk, wild pitch and Jason Walk RBI single.

The Vols would punch back in the second with a two-run home run before OU would get the runs back in the second via a Trey Gambill RBI double and Harris RBI single.

To the fourth, the teams traded single runs before UT would plate three at the top of the fifth to cut the lead to three.

The Sooners would push the lead back to four in the home half of the fifth on Lachance's second homer of the game.

To the seventh, a two-run single from Tennessee and Lachance's third blast of the contest would keep the advantage at three for the Sooners, 11-8.

The teams would trade solo runs again in the eighth to conclude the game's scoring. Tennessee scored via an RBI double down the right line before OU's Dayton Tockey would hit his third home run of the season in the home half to bring the final to 12-9.

Jason Bodin earned his fifth win of the season on the mound, going 2.1 innings and surrendering just two runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout. Senior Jackson Cleveland earned his eighth save, entering with two outs in the eighth and stranding a runner before working a 1-2-3 ninth inning. His eight saves rank second in the SEC.

The Sooners concluded the regular season at 32-20 and 14-16 in SEC play. Oklahoma earned the No. 11 seed at the SEC Tournament in Hoover, Ala., next week.

Oklahoma will face off against 14th-seeded LSU Tuesday night at 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
