NORMAN ā University of Oklahoma freshman defensive lineman Jake Kreul was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after his career night in OU's game against No. 15 Kentucky on Saturday, the conference office announced Monday.
Ā
Kreul, who is from Orlando, Fla., registered career highs of six tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks as part of a Sooners defensive effort that limited the Wildcats to 230 total offensive yards and 72 rushing yards. His 2.5 sacks set an Oklahoma true freshman record and were the most by any OU freshman since redshirt freshman linebacker Brian Bosworth recorded 3.0 sacks in 1984 vs. Iowa State. His 2.5 sacks were the most among all SEC players on the week and his 3.0 TFLs were second most (led the league's freshmen). Kreul entered the game with three total tackles and 0.5 TFL on the season.
Ā
This is Kreul's first career SEC weekly award and OU's fourth this season. Fifth-year wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 7, senior Peyton Bowen was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 12 and fifth-year kicker Tate Sandel was named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 12.
