September 26, 2026 | Football

ATHENS, Ga. — Oklahoma dropped its SEC road opener for the first time in three seasons, falling at No. 2 Georgia 41-13 Saturday in front of a crowd of 93,033 at Sanford Stadium.

Four Oklahoma turnovers loomed large as Georgia widened its margin with 17 points off of turnovers. With OU trailing 14-0 and marching deep in the Georgia red zone, a fumble bounced into the hands of linebacker Chris Cole who returned it 85 yards for a touchdown.

The Sooners (2-2, 0-1 SEC) trailed 28-0 at halftime, but got on the board in the third quarter when quarterback John Mateer found tight end Rocky Beers for a 17-yard touchdown pass. It was Beers' second touchdown reception of the season. OU's two-point attempt was stopped, making the score 28-6.

Sophomore defensive back Omarion Robinson notched his first career interception on Georgia's first possession of the second half, setting up the Sooners on the UGA 35-yard line. Beers scored five plays later.

Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC) added a pair of 45-plus yard field goals and a 54-yard touchdown run by Dwight Phillips Jr. to make the score 41-6.

Mateer worked a 75-yard drive that resulted in a 14-yard touchdown pass to sophomore wide receiver Manny Choice. It was Choice's first career touchdown reception.Ā

OU tallied 16 first downs to Georgia's 12 and outgained the Bulldogs 231 to 171 in passing yards. Mateer completed 25 of 34 passes (74%), including eight each to Beers and wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III. Beers finished with a team-high 84 yards and Sategna had 81 receiving yards.Ā

The Sooners limited a Georgia offense that entered the weekend ranked fourth nationally in total offense (539.0 offensive yards per game) to 308 total yards, and held the Bulldogs' nation-leading scoring offense under their 59.3 points-per-game average. OU held Georgia QB Gunnar Stockton, who entered the weekend leading the nation with a 259.3 passing efficiency rating, to 14-of-25 passing for 171 yards (one touchdown and one interception) and a 118.7 passer rating. The interception was his first of the season.Ā

Robinson and linebacker Kip Lewis each logged five tackles and Lewis added a half-sack and a pass breakup. Sophomore defensive back Courtland Guillory recorded his first career forced fumble, which was recovered by defensive lineman Bishop Thomas.
