Headed Back to Mississippi to Face Ole Miss

NORMAN — After earning a win at Mississippi State Thursday, the Sooners are headed back to the Magnolia State to take on Ole Miss Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

OU and Mississippi are playing for the third time in series history. The two teams last met in Oxford in 2008, with the Rebels winning that contest. OU defeated Mississippi in Norman Oct. 24, 2024, 4-1. Current Sooner, Kayla Keefer, scored the lone goal for the Rebels in that game as a true freshman at Ole Miss.

LAST TIME OUT

Elle Canty and Kayla Keefer both scored and Callie Sullivan tied a season high five with saves as the Sooners blanked Mississippi State, 2-0, in Starkville.

THE SCOUT

Ole Miss is in the first year of the Todd Shulenberger era after he was officially hired Dec. 1, 2025. Shulenberger was at Washington State for 11 seasons before coming to Ole Miss. The Rebels are 7-8 and looking for their first win in SEC play this season. They are undefeated when scoring first and 5-1 in matches decided by a goal.

MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST RECOGNITION

Junior forward Kayla Keefer was named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List. Keefer is one of 30 players across the country tabbed to the list as she leads the nation in goals (16).Keefer also set the Oklahoma single-season records for goals (16) and points (34) in a season, breaking the mark previously held by Whitney Palmer in 2009.

FAMILIAR FOES

Oklahoma head coach Matt Mott led the Ole Miss soccer team for 13 seasons. Coach Mott went 139-97-32 during his time in Oxford. Keefer led the Rebels in goals as a true freshman in 2024, scoring five while making 12 starts.

BENCHMARK NUMBERS

The Sooners are 4-3 in league play and are coming off a 2-0 win at Mississippi State to set a program record for SEC wins in a season. OU also reached 10 wins on the year, giving OU double-digit wins for the third time in as many seasons for the second time in program history.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Freshman Kate McCallister earned her second SEC Freshman of the Week honor of the season after being tabbed to the honor Monday, Oct. 5. The freshman is the first two-time SEC Freshman of the Week in program history. Three of her four goals this season have come on the road (at Oklahoma State, at Georgia and at Texas).

NOTABLE NUMBERS

1: After winning in Starkville Thursday this is the first time that head coach Matt Mott will coach in Oxford since his time at Ole Miss.

5: Oklahoma is 5-1-2 in road games this season. The Sooners are 2-1 in road conference games and have a 6-3 scoring margin in those league contests.

10: The Sooners reached double-digit wins for the third season in a row to tie a program record. The only previous time that the Sooners had done so was from 2014-16.

15: With a win the Sooners would reach 15 points in conference play, setting a program record while also clinching a spot in the SEC Tournament. The top 12 teams in the league earn a spot in the tournament.
