Oklahoma's Ronald Ngetich Earns First SEC Honor

September 02, 2025 | Cross Country

NORMAN — Oklahoma freshman cross country runner Ronald Ngetich was named the Southeastern Conference's Men's Freshman Runner of the Week, following his performance at OSU's Cowboy Preview on Friday.

In his collegiate cross country debut, Ngetich finished first in the men's 5K with a time of 14:43.7, the fastest 5K time by a freshman in the SEC last weekend, and the second fastest overall. His win helped the Sooners to a second-place finish, just three points behind No. 3 Oklahoma State.

Ngetich joined the Oklahoma track and field team in January 2025, where he made his mark in the record books, posting the second-best outdoor 5K time (13:38.67) and fourth-best indoor 5K time (13:44.66) ever recorded by a Sooner.

Ngetich's honor marks the program's first weekly award of the 2025 cross country season.
