Sooners Look to Improve to 6-0

NORMAN — No. 20 Oklahoma Soccer wraps up August with a home match against North Texas Sunday, August 31 at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
OU outshot Louisiana Tech, 26-1, as the Sooners won 3-0 against the Lady Techsters. Naomi Clark, Kayla Keefer and Hadley Murrell all scored in the Sooners' win. 

SERIES HISTORY
The Sooners are 4-6-1 against North Texas and 1-2-1 in Norman … OU won the last meeting, 1-0, in Denton August 15 of last season in the opener … the last meeting in Norman resulted in a 2-2 draw against North Texas Sept. 5, 2021.

THE SCOUT
North Texas is 3-2 and coming off a 4-0 win against McNeese Thursday night … the Mean Green outshot, McNeese, 29-4, in that win … the Mean Green rank third in the nation in shots per game with 25.8 per contest … head coach John Hedlund is 403-160-51 all-time as a head coach … he's been at the helm in Denton since 1995.

GOING FOR SIX STRAIGHT
With a win Thursday the Sooners will be 6-0 for just the second time in program history and the first time since 2002. OU has scored four goals in four of five games and did so in four straight to start the year.

WASHINGTON SETS THE ASSIST RECORD
Senior Alexis Washington became OU's all-time leader in assists after providing another Sunday at Tulsa, bringing her to 20 for her career. 

STACKING BRACES
Three different Sooners have tallied a brace this season, with OU having at least once brace in all four games. Naomi Clark has two, while Juliette Rayo and Elle Canty have one apiece. Canty notched a pair of goals in her first-ever start Sunday at Tulsa. 

RECORD ATTENDANCE
The Sooners set a program single game attendance record with 3,211 during the 4-0 win against East Texas A&M Thursday, Aug. 21. 

SOONERS IN THE POLLS
Oklahoma entered the United Soccer Coaches Poll for the first time since 2017, earning the No. 22 slot as announced Tuesday, Aug. 19. That number bumped up to No. 20 this past Tuesday. OU also earned a slot in the Top Drawer Soccer poll, coming in at No. 22 this past Monday. 

SOONER HONORS THIS SEASON
WHATTYA SAY NAY
After the first week of the season, junior forward Naomi Clark was second in the nation in goals (four) and fourth in points (eight), earning herself a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. 

She currently ranks second in the SEC in goals with five through six games. She reached 10 career goals Thursday after arriving in Norman with four goals after her time at Washington State. 

KNOW THE NAME - ALLY LACCINOLE
Freshman back Ally Laccinole logged all 90 minutes on the backline against OSU as well as 59 minutes in the opener against Creighton, earning SEC Freshman of the Week laurels.

HISTORIC DEBUT
Junior transfer Naomi Clark tallied a brace in her OU debut Thursday against Creighton, scoring in the 11th minute as well as the 57th. She is just the second Sooner in program history to notch a brace in their OU debut and the first since Jonette Coquat against Tulsa Sept. 1, 1998.
