NORMAN — University of Oklahoma head track and field coach James Thomas announced OU's 2025 cross country schedule Thursday.
The Sooners will compete in four regular season meets before participating in the SEC Championships in late October. The NCAA Midwest Regional and NCAA Championships are scheduled for November.
"Cross country gets the ball rolling for us as a program each year, so I'm already excited to see our teams' continued growth and development," said Thomas. "Co-head cross country coaches Jay Weaver and Anna Bearss get to lead an incredibly talented group of young men and women through a schedule that challenges and prepares each of them for the most important meets of the year."
Oklahoma starts the season Friday, Aug. 29, at the OSU Cowboy Preview in Stillwater, Okla. OU's men's and women's teams then split for the remainder of the regular season before reuniting for postseason competition.
Following the opening meet, the OU men will race at the Aggie Duels on Friday, Sept. 5, in Lawton, Okla., while the women will head to Wichita, Kan., to compete in the JK Gold Classic the following morning.
The men's squad then heads back to Stillwater for the Cowboy Jamboree on Friday, Sept. 26, while the women will compete in the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo., the same day. Three weeks later, the men will run at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, Oct. 17, in Princeton, N.J., and the women will race at the annual Arturo Barrios Invitational in College Station, Texas.
Both squads will then head to Knoxville, Tenn., for the SEC Championships on Friday, Oct. 31. Following that meet, the Sooners head back to Stillwater for NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, Nov. 14. Qualifying teams will compete at the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22 in Columbia, Mo.
"This is going to be an exciting season for the men," said Weaver. "We're returning a strong core group of athletes and have added several key pieces I believe are going to elevate the program. The schedule we've put together gives us the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in our region and across the nation. I'm ready and excited for everyone to get started working toward our ultimate goals in late October and November."
"As a program, we are looking forward to a special and historic season," added Bearss. "This roadmap for the fall provides us opportunities to compete against the best teams in the nation, on some great courses. I look forward to seeing our athletes shine in upcoming months. We accept the challenge of becoming the best that we can be."
