Sooners Finish Fourth at SEC Championship

May 11, 2025 | Rowing

NORMAN — Oklahoma Rowing finished fourth at the 2025 SEC Rowing Championship and graduate student Lale Edil received the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.

"The tight racing of this regatta between us and Alabama capped off by a definitive win over the Crimson Tide in the first varsity eight is a great symbol of the momentum shift this team has made this year," said head coach Sarah Trowbridge. "This year the team has fought to be, not just once, but consistently in the top-25 teams in the country. They've gotten a taste of what their hard work and intention got them and we will make this momentum shift count."

Oklahoma's 1V8+ saw success in the morning, taking third ahead of Alabama. The 2V4+ was just one second ahead of Alabama going into the last 500m of the race, but pulled ahead and finished seven seconds ahead to take third.

"We're proud of what Lale has accomplished in the classroom, and soon in the courtroom, as she's accomplished records on our team as well," said Trowbridge.
Edil rowed stroke seat in the first varsity eight that took third at the championship and received the prestigious award by a vote from the conference's head coaches.

There is no automatic qualifier from the conference championship. All four teams are looking for an at-large bid to the NCAA Rowing Championship on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J., May 30-June 1.
