No. 21 Sooners Pick Up Win Over Ole Miss in Oxford

OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 21 Oklahoma men's tennis team picked up its fifth SEC win on Thursday afternoon after a closely contested road match against Ole Miss.

The Rebels (11-9, 2-8 SEC) held a 3-2 lead before freshman Orel Kimhi tied the match at 3-all following a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win. With all eyes on court three, junior Luis Alvarez pulled off a three-set victory, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6(4), to claim the Oklahoma (12-6, 5-4 SEC) win.

The Sooners continued their streak of winning doubles points, claiming the 15th of the season. The win came from victories at the two and three lines. Sophomore Kholo Montsi and junior Luis Alvarez picked up their 14th win of the season, topping their opponents, 6-2. Soon after, freshman Alejandro Melero and sophomore Asahi Harazaki clinched the point, 6-3, to pick up their seventh win of the season. Primary pair Oscar Lacides and Bruno Nhavene were ahead 5-4 when play was stalled.

The Rebels struck first in singles when senior Jordan Hasson fell at the five line, 2-6, 6-3, 2-6. Ole Miss took the 2-1 lead when freshman Lacides came up short, 6-7(5), 3-6.

Oklahoma fought back when Montsi picked up a win at the two line, 3-6, 7-5, 6-0, to even the match at 2-all. The lead shifted again when Harazaki fell, 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, on court six.

The Sooners head to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to take on the Crimson Tide on Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. CT. The team returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center to host Texas on Thursday, April 3, at 6 p.m. CT and LSU on Saturday, April 5, at noon CT.
