Sooners Win on Road in Regular Season Finale

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Senior Emre Dodanli and redshirt junior Fuzzy Benas each claimed two event titles to lead No. 1 Oklahoma to a 325.250 team total and wins over No. 10 William & Mary (311.450) and No. 11 Greenville (298.750) Saturday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
 
The Sooners swept the individual and team event titles. Dodanli won floor exercise with a season-high 14.400 and won horizontal bar with a career-high 14.500. Benas won vault with a stuck 14.450 and won parallel bars with a team season-best 13.950. Junior Ignacio Yockers won pommel horse with his 13.950 and sophomore Tas Hajdu won still rings with his 13.800.
 
OU's team total was its second-highest road score and its fifth-highest score of the season overall. The Sooners tied their season high on floor exercise (55.400) and scored 54.200 on pommel horse, 52.350 on rings, 56.650 on vault, 52.600 on parallel bars and 54.050 on horizontal bar.
 
"We're happy that we came our relatively unscathed, and now we get ready for the conference championship," Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams said. "They ran a good meet, and we did well. On p-bars and high bar, we kind of had a couple mistakes but it wasn't terrible. Emre had a really good day and Fuzzy had a really good day. Those are the guys we definitely need to count on to be ready to go in a couple of weeks."
 
Oklahoma started on pommel horse, and sophomore Colin Flores hit a season-high 13.100 to lead off the meet. Sophomore Tyler Flores followed with a 13.650, senior Zach Nunez notched a 13.500 and Yockers anchored with his 13.950.
 
Colin Flores led off on rings, scoring 12.500 in his first routine of the season, and Hajdu anchored with his meet-high 13.800. Benas also performed his first rings routine of the season, scoring 13.200, which included a 9.2 execution score.
 
Dodanli debuted a new floor routine, combining his 5.6 difficulty with an 8.8 execution score to register his season-high 14.400. Redshirt freshman Arthur Ballon led off with a 13.500, sophomore Nico Hamilton notched his season high with a 13.750 and Benas scored 13.750 in the third spot.
 
Colin Flores started on parallel bars for OU with a 13.200, Hajdu scored 12.950 and Benas anchored with the team's best p-bars score of the season (13.950), which included a 9.25 execution mark and a stuck dismount. Ballon notched a career high on high bar with his 13.400 and junior Kelton Christiansen notched a 14.100, his third high bar score this season of 14 or better. Dodanli anchored with his 14.500, which is just two-tenths shy of the best high bar score nationally entering the weekend.
 
The Sooners closed out the meet on vault. Colin Flores led off with 13.600, Tyler Flores scored 14.250, Benas stuck his season-best 14.450 and Dodanli anchored with a season high-tying 14.350.
 
In all, Oklahoma registered six scores of 14.000 or higher and six routines with 9.0 or better execution marks. The Sooners set or tied 11 individual season highs (including season debuts) and three career-best marks.
 
The Sooners will be off from competition for two weekends before the MPSF Championship on Saturday, April 5 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.
