Benas Wins Bronze at U.S. Championships

Three Sooners Named to U.S. Senior Men’s National Team

NEW ORLEANS – Redshirt senior Fuzzy Benas claimed bronze medals in the all-around and on vault at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships Saturday evening at the Smoothie King Center.
 
Benas and freshmen Sasha Bogonosiuk and Nathan Roman were named to the USA Gymnastics Senior Men's National Team, USA Gymnastics announced late Saturday night. Bogonosiuk and Roman have been designated for the Senior National Development Team. Additionally, Roman was selected for the Men's Junior World Championships Team.
 
Benas registered a two-day all-around total of 162.310 to finish third in the USA Gymnastics national championship meet. He notched a score of 81.205 on Saturday (81.205) after posting an 81.105 on Thursday.
 
"Obviously, congratulations to Fuzzy Benas for his third-place all-around finish and basically going 12 for 12," Oklahoma head coach Mark Williams said. "It was a pretty impressive weekend for him."
 
Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk finished eighth in the all-around in his first senior U.S. Championships, posting a total score of 157.300 (78.500 on Thursday and 78.800 on Saturday). Freshman Nathan Roman placed 15th with an all-around total of 154.150 (78.650 and 75.500) and redshirt freshman Alex Deubler placed 20th with a total 150.100 score. Senior Kelton Christiansen competed on two events and finished 10th on horizontal bar (26.750) and 13th on pommel horse (26.050).
 
"I feel like this was a successful championships for us, especially our new guys, who stepped up did a really good job," Williams said. "Making it to U.S. Championships coming in as a freshman is impressive. I'm pleased with Alex Deubler, who stepped up after not getting a chance to compete last season with OU, but I'm happy to see him on track again."
 
Benas scored 28.250 on his two vaults on Saturday to place third on the event, and he placed fourth on high bar (27.660; 14.005 Saturday), fifth on parallel bars (27.500; 14.050 Saturday) and eighth on floor exercise (27.550; 13.500 Saturday). He also scored 26.300 on pommel horse (12.950 Saturday) to place 11th on the event and 25.150 on still rings (12.800 Saturday) to place 18th.
 
Bogonosiuk placed fourth on vault with a Saturday score of 27.750, ninth on floor exercise with a two-day combined score of 27.500 (13.800 Saturday) and 12th on parallel bars with a 26.500 (13.300 Saturday). Roman placed 10th on parallel bars (26.900; 13.750 Saturday) and 15th on floor exercise (26.550; 13.350 Saturday). Deubler finished 11th on parallel bars with a 26.600 (13.200 Saturday).
 
This will be Benas' third stint on the Senior Men's National Team. He was named to the national team following 2024 Winter Cup and 2024 U.S. Championships, before going on to finish sixth at U.S. Olympic Trials. Bogonosiuk and Roman, who had both been members of the U.S. Junior National Team were named to the senior squad for the first time.
 
Roman is one of three men's gymnasts selected to represent Team USA at the Junior World Championships, which will be held Nov. 20-24 in Manila, the Philippines.
