GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A first half goal from junior
Hadley Murrell led the University of Oklahoma soccer team to a 1-0 road win at Florida in its regular season finale Sunday afternoon.
Oklahoma (10-7-1, 3-6-1 SEC) earned its first clean sheet in conference play while outshooting the Gators (4-7-6, 1-6-2 SEC) by a 9-8 margin.
OU goalkeeper
Caroline Duffy directed her back line to a phenomenal effort, holding UF without a shot on target across the duration of the match.
Murrell's strike occurred in the 11th minute, receiving a perfect
Ella Pappas pass into the center of the box and bounding the ball off the ground over the keeper's outstretched hand.
Cassie Clifton added an assist on the throw-in, leading Pappas to a terrific angle from the left side of the box.
Sophie Green led all outfielders with three shots while she, Murrell and
Leonie Weber accounted for Oklahoma's three shots on frame.
Sunday's goal pushed Oklahoma's season total to 38, establishing a new program record.
Although the Sooners closed the regular season as winners of back-to-back matches, an LSU win over Missouri Sunday eliminated OU from SEC Tournament contention.
