NORMAN, Okla. - Ricky Eisenberg hit a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning to help No. 10 Oklahoma win 11-7 on Sunday and complete a three-game sweep of visiting Kansas.
It was Eisenberg's first homer of the year (first career grand slam and walk-off hit) and the Sooners' first walk-off win since topping Oral Roberts 7-6 in the first game of the 2010 NCAA Norman Regional.
Eisenberg had three homers last year in his first year as a Sooner, including a home run on Mother's Day against Oklahoma State.
"It's pretty cool," said Eisenberg about his walk-off hit. "I was just trying to drive the ball into the outfield and I knew I hit it pretty hard, especially with the wind. I've never had a grand slam or a walk off hit."
OU led 7-5 headed into the top of the final frame, but Kansas hit a pair of homers off Ryan Duke to tie the game at seven runs apiece.
"It was a crazy game when you think about the age of the BBCOR bat. There's three big home runs in the ninth inning," OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway said. "We didn't play a clean game and I could sit here and talk about all the things we needed to do better, but I'm not going to do that.
"I think the thing stands out the most is a lot of teams would have rested on what they did Friday and Saturday. It's hot, everyone is tired and they kept coming back. We didn't do that. Our guys toed the line stayed in there and got a great victory."
The Jayhawks jumped out to Sunday's first lead for the third straight game with a run in the first, but were unable to hold on despite tying the game at four apiece in the top of the seventh.
The win was OU's fifth straight and improves its overall record to 35-13 and 13-9 in Big 12 play while Kansas dropped to 22-27 and 9-15.
Duke (2-0) was credited with the win after tossing 2 1/3 innings with five strikeouts while Colton Murray (2-3) took the loss after surrendering the decisive blow.
Four of KU's last seven losses to Oklahoma have come during the Sooners' final at-bat. In addition, the Jayhawks have suffered five walk-off losses in Big 12 play this year.
Freshman Jordan John made his first weekend start for OU and produced his second longest outing with six innings and eight strikeouts. John left the game in the seventh with a 4-2 lead before fellow freshman Dillon Overton surrendered a pair of unearned runs.
Eisenberg finished the day with a career-high six RBIs with two base knocks. The first hit came after he came into the game as a defensive replacement and then singled in two runs in the fourth inning.
Casey Johnson was also impressive at the plate with three RBIs off two hits and a walk. The senior finished the series with six runs driven off five hits.
OU continues the current seven-game home stand with a four-game weekend series against New Mexico. Friday's opener is set for 6:30 p.m. while the two will play a doubleheader Saturday (3 p.m. and 6 p.m.) and Sunday's finale is slated for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
