Sooners Head to Georgia Tech for SEC/ACC Showdown

NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball hits the road for a nationally televised matchup at Georgia Tech Tuesday night as part of the SEC/ACC Showdown at the Net. First serve is set for 8 p.m. CT inside O'Keefe Gymnasium with the match airing on ACC Network.
The Sooners enter the midweek matchup at 3-1 after splitting a pair of matches against Ohio State and Washington during the Big Ten/SEC Challenge. Georgia Tech brings a perfect 6-0 record into Tuesday's contest after sweeping three matches at the Georgia Tech Classic over the weekend.
FIVE-SET FIGHT
Oklahoma opened its home slate in dramatic fashion Thursday, outlasting Ohio State in five sets to improve to 3-0 on the season. The Sooners dropped the opening set before taking the next two, and after Ohio State forced a fifth, OU secured the home-opening victory in the deciding frame. The win marked Oklahoma's third straight to begin the season following a pair of sweeps at the Texas State Invitational.
CAREER NIGHT
Several Sooners turned in career performances during Thursday's five-set victory over Ohio State. Sophomore Tekoa Barnes recorded career highs in kills, digs and blocks while notching the first double-double of her career. Ada Awagu and Carley Butler each established career highs in kills and blocks, while Alyssa Flack set a career best in kills and Avaya Maga recorded career highs in assists and blocks.
FAMILIAR FOE
Elise Hani turned in a standout performance against her former team Friday as the Sooners faced Washington in the Big Ten/SEC Challenge. Hani, who spent four seasons with the Huskies before transferring to Oklahoma, recorded 11 kills without an error on 20 swings for a .550 hitting percentage. The senior middle also led the Sooners with five blocks, finishing with 14 points in the four-set setback.
ON THE RIGHT SIDE
Sophomore Tekoa Barnes continues to make an impact in a new role after transitioning from outside hitter to the right side during the spring. After earning Texas State Invitational All-Tournament honors during her first weekend at the position, Barnes recorded the first two double-doubles of her career in back-to-back matches against Ohio State and Washington.
SHOWDOWN AT THE NET
Tuesday's match marks Oklahoma's second conference crossover event in as many weeks as the Sooners travel to Atlanta for the SEC/ACC Showdown at the Net. OU hosted Ohio State and Washington as part of the inaugural Big Ten/SEC Challenge last week before turning its attention to ACC foe Georgia Tech. The matchup is one of several SEC/ACC Showdown contests taking place across the country during nonconference play.

Georgia Tech went 3-0 at its home tournament over the weekend with victories over Southern Indiana, Campbell and Xavier after opening the season with three wins at the Cyclone Invite. Freshman Alida Bennour totaled 35 kills, 29 digs and 10 blocks during the Georgia Tech Classic while recording back-to-back double-doubles, and fellow freshman Magda Kobaidze added 33 kills and seven blocks. Senior setter Heloise Soares surpassed 2,000 career assists over the weekend and moved into fifth in Georgia Tech's modern-era record book for career assists.
