Sooners Fall to Washington in Four Sets

NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball suffered its first loss of the 2026 season Friday afternoon, falling to Washington in four sets (18-25, 25-19, 16-25, 24-26) at McCasland Field House as part of the Big Ten/SEC Challenge.Ā 

After dropping the opening set, Oklahoma (3-1) responded with a dominant second frame, hitting .594 to even the match at one set apiece. Washington (5-0) regained control with a 25-16 win in the third before the Sooners built an early lead in the fourth and eventually reached set point with a 24-20 advantage. The Huskies erased all four set points and closed the match on a 6-0 run to take the fourth, 26-24.

Oklahoma finished with 55 kills on a .219 hitting percentage, while Washington recorded 54 kills and hit .266. The Huskies held a slight 8-7 advantage in blocks and finished with 52 digs to OU's 49.

Sophomore Tekoa Barnes led the Sooners with 14 kills and added 11 digs for her second consecutive double-double. Senior Elise Hani turned in an efficient performance in the middle, finishing with 11 kills without an error on 20 swings for a .550 hitting percentage while adding five blocks.Ā 

Junior Alaleh Tolliver added nine kills and six digs, while sophomore Alyssa Flack recorded eight kills. Sophomore setter Avaya Maga dished out 41 assists and added nine digs, while sophomore Aniya Warren finished with 10 digs.

SET ONE
Washington created the first separation of the afternoon with a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead. Oklahoma pulled within three at 11-8, but the Huskies responded and eventually stretched their advantage to 20-13. The Sooners scored four of the next seven points to make it 23-17 before Washington closed out the opening set, 25-18.

SET TWO
Oklahoma responded with its best offensive set of the match, hitting .594 with 20 kills and just one error. The Sooners opened with a 6-1 advantage before Washington worked its way back and eventually tied the frame at 17-17. OU answered with five straight points to regain control at 22-17. Flack and Barnes pushed the Sooners to set point before Mari King finished off the 25-19 victory with a kill to even the match.

SET THREE
Washington took control early in the third, building a 7-3 lead before Oklahoma pulled within one at 9-8. The Huskies responded with a 7-1 stretch to extend the margin to 16-9. Back-to-back Barnes kills brought OU within five at 16-11, but Washington maintained its advantage down the stretch to take the set, 25-16, and a 2-1 lead in the match.

SET FOUR
Oklahoma came out strong in the fourth, using an early 5-0 run to build an 8-2 advantage before extending the lead to 12-5. Washington gradually chipped away, cutting the deficit to one at 19-18 before the Sooners pushed back ahead, 24-20. The Huskies then fought off four consecutive set points, scoring the final six points of the match to take the set, 26-24, and secure the 3-1 victory.

LOOKING AHEAD
Oklahoma returns to the road Tuesday, traveling to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech as part of the SEC/ACC Showdown at the Net. The Yellow Jackets sit just outside the AVCA Top 25 and will welcome the Sooners for an 8 p.m. CT first serve.
