Oklahoma Rolls Past Abilene Christian in Straight Sets

NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball returned to the win column Sunday afternoon with a 3-0 sweep of Abilene Christian (25-17, 25-12, 25-22) at McCasland Field House. The Sooners improved to 4-2 on the season with the victory.

Oklahoma controlled the match offensively, finishing with 50 kills on a .379 hitting percentage while holding Abilene Christian to 29 kills and a .186 clip. The Sooners set the tone with 21 kills and a .543 hitting percentage in the opening frame before dominating the second, 25-12. ACU challenged late in the third, but OU broke a 21-21 tie with three consecutive points and finished off the sweep, 25-22.

Sophomore Tekoa Barnes led the Sooners with 16 kills on just 28 swings, hitting .464 while adding four digs and two blocks. Senior Elise Hani continued her efficient stretch with 10 kills on 16 attempts without an error for a .625 hitting percentage. Hani has now totaled 34 kills without an attack error over Oklahoma's last three matches, recording 11 against Washington, 13 at Georgia Tech and 10 against Abilene Christian.

Sophomore Alyssa Flack added eight kills on a .357 clip, while junior Mikala Young finished with seven kills and five digs and junior Carley Butler tallied six kills on a .313 hitting percentage. Sophomore Avaya Maga directed the offense with 40 assists to go along with three kills, four digs and an ace. Sophomore libero Aniya Warren paced the Sooners defensively with 13 digs, while junior Kinsley Singleton added eight digs and an ace.

SET ONE
After ACU pulled within one at 15-14, Oklahoma answered with a 5-2 stretch to open a 20-16 advantage. Singleton then went to the service line and helped the Sooners string together four straight points, including kills from Barnes, Young and Hani and an ace, to push the lead to 23-16. Hani added another kill before Alaleh Tolliver's ace closed the frame, 25-17. Oklahoma recorded 21 kills with just two errors to hit .543 in the set.

SET TWO
Oklahoma broke open a close second set with a dominant run from the service line. Leading 12-7, the Sooners scored nine consecutive points behind Singleton's serve to surge ahead 21-7. Barnes supplied three kills during the run while Young added a kill and a block as OU forced four ACU attack errors. Butler ended the set with a kill for the 25-12 win.

SET THREE
The Sooners led throughout much of the third, but Abilene Christian stayed within striking distance and eventually pulled even at 20-20. Hani put OU back in front with a kill before ACU tied it again at 21. Flack answered with a kill, Hani followed with another and Young gave the Sooners match point at 24-21. After one ACU point, a Wildcat service error sealed the sweep, 25-22.

Oklahoma remains home Tuesday, welcoming East Texas A&M to McCasland Field House for a 6 p.m. first serve.
