CARLSBAD, Calif. – With its season on the line, Oklahoma men's golf delivered Sunday at the NCAA Championships, climbing two spots up the leaderboard and comfortably advancing through the 54-hole cut at Omni La Costa's Champions Course.

The Sooners carded an even-par 288 in the third round and will enter Monday's final round of stroke play in ninth place at even-par 864, just one shot outside the top eight and the match-play cut line.

Oklahoma has now advanced past the 15-team cut at nine of the last 10 NCAA Championships and will look to secure its eighth match-play appearance on Monday.

When the Sooners tee off on Monday one shot out of eighth, history will be on their side. According to College Golf Data, nine of the 17 teams that have entered the final round of stroke play one shot outside the top eight have successfully advanced to match play, including five of the last six such teams dating back to 2019.

Junior Ryder Cowan paced Oklahoma on Sunday, firing a 3-under 69 to move into a tie for 22nd at 2-under for the championship. Cowan's round was the Sooners' lone under-par score of the day as the junior continues his push for All-America first-team honors.

Matthew Troutman sits tied for 32nd at 1-under after posting a 1-over 73 in Round 3. Clark Van Gaalen carded a 2-over 74 and is tied for 55th at 1-over overall, while All-American Jase Summy turned in an even-par round and enters Monday tied for 58th at 2-over.

Following the championship, Summy is projected to become Oklahoma's nation-leading 10th PGA Tour University graduate. The senior is expected to earn Korn Ferry Tour status by finishing inside the top 10 of the PGA Tour University rankings.

PJ Maybank III rounded out the Sooner lineup and is tied for 141st.

The 30-team field was trimmed to 15 following Sunday's round. After Monday's final round of stroke play, the top eight teams will advance to match play, with quarterfinal and semifinal matches scheduled for Tuesday and the national championship match set for Wednesday.

Oklahoma's 54-hole total of 864 (E) stands as the fourth-lowest NCAA Championship score through three rounds in program history.

At the top of the team leaderboard, top-ranked Auburn  leads at 22-under, followed by No. 3 Texas at 19-under. No. 11 Vanderbilt is third at 9-under, while UCLA, No. 13 Arizona and No. 5 Oklahoma State are tied for fourth at 8-under.

No. 10 North Carolina holds seventh at 6-under, while Duke occupies the final match-play position at 1-under. Oklahoma sits one shot behind the Blue Devils and ahead of No. 4 Virginia (+1), No. 2 Florida (+1), No. 7 LSU (+2), San Diego (+2), No. 18 Tennessee (+2) and No. 15 Stanford (+2).

Individually, Oklahoma State's Preston Stout leads the race for the national championship at 11-under par, one stroke ahead of three players tied at 10-under.

Oklahoma will tee off Monday beginning at 1:36 p.m. CT alongside North Carolina and Duke. Live scoring is available through Scoreboard powered by Clippd, while Golf Channel will provide coverage from 5-9 p.m. CT.
