Sooners Set to Host California in Home Finale

THE MEET
Ā 

• No. 1 Oklahoma plays host to No. 8 California at McCasland Field House on Saturday. The meet is set to begin with introductions at 5:45 p.m. and the first routine at 6 p.m. Doors open at 4:45 p.m., and admission is free.

• The meet will be televised on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and OU gymnastics alumni Matt Wenske and Genki Suzuki on the call. Live scoring will be available via Virti.us.

• Saturday's meet is Senior Night and Student Group Night, featuring an OU visor giveaway. There will be a senior recognition after the conclusion of the meet. There will also be a t-shirt toss, socks for sticks and an ice cream giveaway for the loudest fan of the meet. Admission to all Oklahoma men's gymnastics home meets during the 2026 season is free.

• Following Saturday's meet, Oklahoma will take a week off from competition, before heading to Berkely, Calif., for a rematch with California. It is the regular season finale and will take place on March 21 at 6 p.m. CT.

• Oklahoma's only defeat inside McCasland Field House since the 2007 season was in the 2024 MPSF Championship when OU finished second to Stanford. Oklahoma is unbeaten against its last 80 regular season opponents, encompassing 67 consecutive regular season meets, inside McCasland Field House, dating back to the 2007 season. The streak began on March 17, 2007, with a victory over Iowa. OU's last regular-season loss in the field house was March 3, 2007, against Ohio State. Oklahoma and Stanford also tied in a dual meet in McCasland Field House during the 2021 season.

• Oklahoma is one of only two programs nationally to score at least 320.000 in each of its meets so far this season (the other is No. 2 Stanford).

• The Sooners have posted the two highest team scores in the nation with a 331.300 score versus Nebraska on Feb. 28 and a 328.650 in wins over Ohio State and Air Force on Feb. 7. The Sooners highest score is 4.850 higher than the next highest score in the nation (Stanford scored 326.450 on Jan. 24).

• Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk was named the CGA national Rookie of the Week for the second time this season and MPSF conference Freshman of the Week following his performance in OU's win over Nebraska. Bogonosiuk claimed the vault title, posting a 14.450 to tie his career high. Fifth-year senior Brigham Frentheway won MPSF national Gymnast of the Week following his performance in OU's win over Nebraska where he set season highs on all four of his event. Freshman Nathan Roman also won MPSF conference Specialist of the Week after his performance in OU's win over Nebraska where he set a career-high 14.650 on parallel bars, which is also the highest score in the nation on the event.

• Bogonosiuk and Roman were named to the U.S. Senior Development Team following their performances at 2026 Winter Cup. Bogonosiuk won silver on vault with his 13.575 average. Benas also competed at Winter Cup for the fourth time.

• Mark Williams is in his 27th season as Oklahoma head coach. He has led the Sooners to 620 victories (621-61-1 [.909]), nine national championships and 20 MPSF conference titles since his first season in 2000.

NATIONAL RANKINGS NOTES

• Oklahoma is No. 1 in the Week 8 rankings with an average team score of 325.150 after posting the highest score in the nation this season (331.300) in a win over No. 3 Nebraska (321.150) on Saturday at McCasland Field House

• OU holds first place on pommel horse (54.660), vault (55.610) and high bar (53.780) and ranks second on floor exercise (54.220), still rings (53.200) and parallel bars (53.680).

• Oklahoma has two gymnasts ranked No. 1 on individual events, with sophomore Colby Aranda ranked at the top on pommel horse (14.250) and junior Tyler Flores on vault (14.400).

• Fifth-year senior Brigham Frentheway is ranked fifth on floor exercise (13.850), freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk ranks eighth (13.720), and redshirt sophomore Arthur Ballon ranks ninth (13.700). Senior Ignacio Yockers sits second on pommel horse (14.140).

• Sophomore Francisco Velez Belendez ranks third on still rings (13.887), and junior Tas Hajdu is sixth (13.700). Bogonosiuk is ranked third on vault (14.230), while freshman Nathan Roman is second on parallel bars (14.188).

• Redshirt junior Brandon Zepeda-Orth ranks second on high bar (13.917), senior Kelton Christiansen is third (13.913) and Benas sits 10th (13.290). Bogonosiuk also ranks 10th in the all-around (79.650).

LAST TIME OUT

• Freshman Nathan Roman posted the highest parallel bars score in the nation this season (14.650) to lead No. 1 Oklahoma to a team total of 331.300 and a win over No. 3 Nebraska (321.150) in front of a crowd of 1,213 last Saturday at McCasland Field House.

• Oklahoma's score of 331.300 is the highest in the nation this season. This is the second straight meet in which the Sooners have set a national high score. OU registered a 328.650 on Feb. 7 against Ohio State and Air Force, and now owns the two highest scores in the country this season.

• The Sooners swept all six individual event titles with a season-high 13 stuck dismounts on the night. Junior Nico Hamilton won floor exercise with a 14.150 for his first individual event title of the season. Redshirt freshman Colby Aranda (14.450 on pommel horse) and sophomore Francisco Velez Belendez (14.150 on still rings) both won their second straight event titles.

• Freshman Sasha Bogonosiuk won his second straight vault title with a stuck 14.450. Roman competed for the first time in McCasland Field House and won the parallel bars title with his career-high 14.650. Senior Kelton Christiansen won the horizontal bar title with a 14.400 to claim his first event title of the season.

HISTORY AND TRADITION

• Oklahoma has won 12 national championships (1977, '78, '91, 2002, '03, '05, '06, '08, '15, '16, '17, '18), tied for most in NCAA history (tied with Penn State), including nine national titles since 2000. The Sooners have finished first or second in 19 of the last 23 NCAA Championships, and has reached 25 consecutive NCAA finals, or every championship held since 2000 (does not count the 2020 championship canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic). OU has finished among the top 3 in 23 of the last 24 NCAA Championships held, dating back to the 2001 season.

• Mark Williams has led Oklahoma to nine national titles over the course of his 26 seasons as head coach of the Sooners. OU won an NCAA championship held in Norman three times: 2002, 2006 and 2015.

• The Sooners last won an NCAA championship in 2018 in Chicago, Ill., capping a run of four consecutive national titles (2015-18), then claimed second place in three straight championships: 2019, '21 and '22.
