NORMAN – Oklahoma senior center
Raegan Beers was named to the All-SEC First Team and freshman guard
Aaliyah Chavez was named to the second team, the league office announced Tuesday. Selections were made by the conference's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
Beers collected first-team honors for the second consecutive season, while Chavez was the only freshman in the league to be named All-SEC, earning a spot on the All-SEC Second Team.
Beers, a product of Littleton, Colo., averaged 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Her 20 double-doubles led the SEC and she topped the league in field goal percentage at 61.4%. Beers was the only Power Five player in the country to average at least 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She scored in double figures in 14 of Oklahoma's 16 conference games and recorded nine double-doubles in league play.
Beers is a top-10 finalist for the Lisa Leslie Award and a late-season watch list selection for the Naismith and Wooden Awards. She enters the postseason as the only active Division I player with at least 1,900 career points and 1,100 career rebounds and sits 15 points shy of becoming the third Sooner to reach 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, joining Courtney Paris and Molly McGuire.
Chavez, from Lubbock, Texas, authored one of the most decorated debut seasons in SEC history. An SEC-record eight-time Freshman of the Week, she led all league freshmen in scoring at 18.4 points per game, more than five points higher than any other first-year player. Chavez also averaged 4.2 assists (second among SEC freshmen), 3.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals (third among league freshmen) per game.
Nationally, Chavez is the only freshman averaging at least 18.0 points, 4.0 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game and one of two players since 2009, alongside Paige Bueckers, to post those numbers while averaging 3.0 or fewer turnovers. Her six 25-point games are more than the rest of the SEC freshman class combined and she led the conference's freshmen with 21 games of 15 points. A top-10 finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award, Chavez was the only freshman named to the Wooden Award top-20 watch list.
Chavez averaged 19.0 points and 3.8 assists in 12 games against ranked opponents, scoring 20 or more points five times. She leads the nation in free throw percentage at 93.4%, a mark that would set the NCAA freshman record, and has made an SEC record 53 consecutive free throws.
In five seasons under head coach
Jennie Baranczyk, Oklahoma has produced 16 All-Conference selections, matching the program's highest five-year total since 2014-18.
The Sooners enter this week's SEC Tournament in Greenville, S.C., as the No. 5 seed and will face either No. 12 Florida or No. 13 Mississippi State on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
