NORMAN — Oklahoma Softball freshman
Lexi McDaniel was named SEC Softball Freshman of the Week as announced by the league Monday, March 2. McDaniel led the Sooners with a .769 batting average in five games this past weekend, helping Oklahoma put up a staggering 116 runs and 30 homers.
The freshman out of St. Joseph, Mo., hit .769 (10-for-13) with four home runs, 11 runs, 12 RBI and a 1.769 slugging percentage. She had four multi-hit games, including a 4-for-4 game against Alabama State Feb. 27 in which she homered twice. She also hit a grand slam Feb. 28 as the Sooners set a program record with 21 runs in the same inning. Teammate
Abby Dayton also hit a grand slam in the same inning, tying an NCAA record for grand slams in an inning.
McDaniel leads the team with a .556 batting average (20-for-36), while adding five home runs and 17 RBI. She also hit a pivotal pinch-hit home run in the 13-3 win against Sam Houston State Feb. 27, her second pinch hit home run of the season.
Both McDaniel and
Kai Minor have been named SEC Freshman of the Week this season, while classmate
Kendall Wells was honored as Softball America Freshman of the Week last Tuesday.
Sooner freshmen have combined for 32 of OU's 86 home runs this season between McDaniel, Minor,
Allyssa Parker and Wells.
The Sooners continue non-conference play tomorrow Tuesday, March 3 at North Texas. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
