Sooners Named Top-16 Team, Will Host NCAA Tournament Games

March 14, 2026 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN – For the second consecutive season and the third time under fifth-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk, Oklahoma women's basketball has been named one of the top 16 teams in the country by the NCAA selection committee, securing hosting privileges for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament in Norman.

The committee unveiled its top 16 teams in alphabetical order Saturday afternoon and will reveal the full NCAA Tournament bracket — including seeds, matchups and dates — at 7 p.m. CT Sunday on ESPN.

Oklahoma's selection into the NCAA Tournament marks the program's 26th berth all-time and the fifth straight under Baranczyk. The Sooners have earned a top-five seed in all five of Baranczyk's NCAA Tournament appearances, tying the program record for consecutive tournaments as a top-five seed (2006-10).

Oklahoma enters the postseason at 24-7 overall and is led by All-SEC selections Raegan Beers and Aaliyah Chavez, the latter of whom was named ESPN's National Freshman of the Year.

A consistent presence in the NCAA postseason, Oklahoma has now made 26 tournament appearances, including 24 since 2000. The Sooners have reached three Final Fours (2002, 2009, 2010) and 11 Sweet 16s, most recently in 2025.

The 2026 championship will be the fifth to feature a 68-team field. First Four games will take place March 18-19 at four of the top-16 host sites. First- and second-round games will be played March 20-23 on the campuses of the top-16 seeds.

The championship continues with a two-site regional format. Eight teams will compete at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, while the remaining eight will play at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. Regional play runs March 27-30, with each site hosting two regional semifinal games on March 27 and two more on March 28. Regional championship games will follow March 29-30.

The 2026 Women's Final Four is set for April 3 and 5 at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix, Ariz.

Ticket information for all games will be released on Sunday following the bracket reveal.
