SEC Announces Men's Basketball Preseason Predicted Order of Finish and All-SEC Teams

October 12, 2026 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN — The Oklahoma men's basketball team was selected 12th in the SEC preseason predicted order of finish as voted upon by a select panel of both SEC and national media members. The Sooners, coming off a 21-win season that included a trip to the title game of the College Basketball Crown, open the season Monday, Nov. 2, against East Texas A&M at Lloyd Noble Center.

Florida was selected to repeat as SEC Champion with Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama rounding out the top five. The SEC continues to be the top conference in college basketball entering the 2026-27 season with eight teams listed in the latest ESPN Way-to-Early Top 25 Rankings.

Florida's Thomas Haugh was picked by the voting panel as SEC Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He was joined on the Preseason All-SEC first team by teammate Rueben Chinyelu, Tennessee's Juke Harris, Vanderbilt's Tyler Tanner and Mississippi State's Josh Hubbard. Florida's Alex Condon, Alabama's Amari Allen, Kentucky's Milan Momcilovic, Arkansas' Jordan Smith Jr. and Texas' Matas Vokietaitis made up the second team, while Arkansas' Billy Richmond, Texas A&M's PJ Haggerty, Kentucky's Malachi Moreno, Auburn's Tahaad Pettiford and Texas' David Punch were named to the third team.

Oklahoma returns two starters from a year ago in Xzayvier Brown and Derrion Reid. Brown averaged 15.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game in 2025-26 to establish himself as one of the top guards in the loaded SEC. Reid scored in double figures 27 times last season while averaging 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.
