Entering your third season, how are you growing into your role on the defense?
"It's always the role I needed to walk into and it's time for me to take that role. I'm taking it with an open heart. I'm still a sponge, because there are older guys in the room, so I'm soaking up all the knowledge I can from them. I try to meet with Coach (Nate) Dreiling and Coach (James) Skalski and Coach (Wes) Goodwin. We have an amazing staff here to help us be the best we can be. So, I'm just trying to utilize all the resources I have around me and be the best player I can for this team."
What kind of impact have the new linebackers coaches made on the defense so far?
"Coach Dreiling is an amazing dude. He's a goofball, but he's an amazing coach to be around. He makes the entire staff better. Coach Goodwin is a vet. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's been a (defensive coordinator), so he knows the P's and Q's of the defense. He was with Coach Venables at Clemson for a while and they have very similar minds, very defensive-tactic minds. So, it's amazing to have them both in the same room."
What is your mindset going into this season?
"Coming into this year, I'm trying stay hungry and be humble. In my eyes, I haven't done anything yet and I have everything to prove. I'm just going to stay hungry and driven."
How is your first preseason camp as a Sooner been?
"It's been a smooth camp. I like what the offense has been doing, but there's still a lot we can improve on. So just looking forward to finishing camp strong heading into the season."
What has been your early impressions of OU?
"The legacy is crazy. Every time we practice, every time we're in the indoor facility, we're reminded of all the conference championships, all the national championships and all the banners the previous teams have hung here. It's just greatness here."
What are your thoughts on the offense?
"It's very special having a young (offensive coordinator) that wants to air the ball out. This is going to be a very explosive offense, and that's why I came here to play. It's great having other really good receivers around you because that's only going to up your game and make you practice even harder."
