COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 14 Oklahoma women's track and field team closed out day two of the NCAA West First Rounds Thursday night at E.B. Cushing Stadium. In the hammer throw,
Kennedy Clarke and
Kassidy Gallagher punched their tickets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14 with top-12 finishes in the event.
The throws duo stamped their trip to NCAAs Thursday morning. Clarke tossed 64.11m (210'4.00") on her second attempt for eighth place and Gallagher registered 64.08m (210'3.00") on her third throw for ninth. This marks Clarke's first appearance on the national stage and Gallagher's second, having qualified for the 2023 outdoor championships in Austin, Texas.
Senior
Jenna James clinched a lane in the 400m quarterfinals Saturday at 7:25 p.m. CT with a win in heat five. She secured the automatic qualification with a career-best 57.35, which ranks No. 3 on OU's all-time performance list.
A pair of Sooners,
Paige Low and Tuane Silver, finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the shot put. Low recorded 16.18m (53'1.00") and Silver 16.15m (53'0.00"). Low, a senior, concludes her collegiate career the discus throw school record holder and ranks No. 6 all-time in Oklahoma outdoor history in the shot put.
Freshman
Abby Jepchirchir wrapped up her freshman season with a 2:06.34 time in the 800-meter run, finishing one spot out of qualifying for quarterfinals in 25th place.
