AMHERST, Va. – Oklahoma men's golf turned in rounds of 276 and 285 at Poplar Grove Golf Club on Sunday and Monday, placing the Sooners third on the leaderboard with one round remaining at the NCAA Amherst Regional.
The Sooners (3, +1) sit five shots clear of the cut line, which determines who advances to the NCAA Championships as the top five teams will move on from Amherst. OU seeks its 14th consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, which would extend a program record.
Originally slated for Monday–Wednesday, the 54-hole tournament began Sunday afternoon due to forecasted weather. Teams completed their opening rounds Monday morning before playing the second round in the afternoon at the par-70 course.
Oklahoma fired a 4-under 276 in the opening round to sit second after 18 holes, but a 5-over 285 in round two dropped the team into third. The Sooners led the field through 14 holes on Monday before struggling on Nos. 15 and 16 – the course's toughest two holes – where they played 10-over par collectively.
Entering the final round, OU trails Tennessee (-4) and No. 18 Vanderbilt (-3), while Arizona (+4), Florida Gulf Coast (+5) and Arkansas (+6) are in pursuit of the Sooners. Top-seeded and sixth-ranked LSU is in 11
th at 15-over par while fourth-seeded No. 19 Pepperdine is seventh at 12-over. A pair of birdies on the 18th from
Clark Van Gaalen and
Jase Summy gave the Sooners some cushion between them and the cut.
True freshman
Clark Van Gaalen (T8, -1) leads the Sooners after rounds of 71 (+1) and 68 (-2). The Turlock, Calif., native caught fire Monday with six birdies over his first 12 holes but played the final six at 4-over to settle for a 68. His 10 birdies are the most in the field.
Ryder Cowan (T12, E) is one shot back of Van Gaalen after a 67-73 start. The sophomore has been most productive around the turn, playing Nos. 8–15 at 6-under for the week.
Jase Summy (T20, +1) sits inside the top 20 after posting rounds of 69 and 72. The All-SEC first-team selection has just four bogeys through 36 holes, fewest among the OU lineup.
Drew Goodman (T28, +3) turned in rounds of 71 and 72 to sit in a tie for 27th at 3-over par. The senior's scorecards featured a team-high 25 pars, and outside of a triple bogey on No. 3 in the first round, the two-time All-American and second-team All-SEC selection is even-par for the week.
PJ Maybank III (T33, +4) rounds out the OU lineup with a 69-75 start and sits tied for 34th.
Oklahoma has won seven NCAA regional championships in program history, including four under head coach
Ryan Hybl (2015, 2018, 2022, 2024). The Sooners' streak of 13 consecutive NCAA Championship appearances ranks second nationally behind Texas (17), which has yet to tee off in the Reno Regional due to high winds.
OU will tee off in the final round at a time to-be-determined pending weather alongside Tennessee and Vanderbilt in an all-SEC pairing. Updates will be provided on Oklahoma Men's Golf social media.
