NORMAN – Oklahoma men's golf will make its 14th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance under head coach
Ryan Hybl, as the Sooners were named the No. 2 seed at the Amherst Regional on Wednesday. The event is set for May 12-14 at Poplar Grove Golf Club in Amherst, Va.
This marks the seventh straight year that Oklahoma, currently ranked No. 7 nationally, has earned a top-three regional seed — the longest streak in program history. At the regional, the top five teams and the low individual on a non-advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Championships, set for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Sooners will be one of 13 teams competing at Poplar Grove, one of six NCAA Regional sites that serve as the gateway to the national championship. Oklahoma has advanced out of regional play and to the NCAA Championships every year since 2011, the second-longest active streak in the nation.
Top-seeded and sixth-ranked LSU headlines the Amherst field, followed by No. 7 Oklahoma. In total, eight of the nation's top 50 teams will compete at the site: No. 6 LSU, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 18 Vanderbilt, No. 19 Pepperdine, No. 30 Tennessee, No. 31 Arizona, No. 42 Stanford and No. 43 Wake Forest. Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Kent State, Princeton and Howard round out the 13-team field.
Oklahoma has won four tournaments in 2024-25, tied for the third-most in the country. The Sooners own a 132-17-3 record and have defeated every team ranked ahead of them at least once, including Amherst's top seed, LSU. Led by Palmer Cup selection
Jase Summy and two other top-50 golfers in
Drew Goodman and
Ryder Cowan, OU brings one of the nation's most experienced lineups into the postseason, with its roster combining for over 600 career rounds.
Since 2015, Oklahoma has captured 38 tournament titles, including the 2017 national championship. The Sooners have reached a program-record 13 straight NCAA Championships and have earned a top-10 national seed in each of the last seven seasons. Since the start of 2021-22, no SEC team has won more stroke-play tournaments than Oklahoma's 19.
The Sooners have won seven NCAA Regionals in program history, including four under Hybl (2015, 2018, 2022, 2024). They are also the only program to appear in six of the last eight NCAA Match Play quarterfinals.
Poplar Grove Golf Club, set in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, was the final course designed by golf legend Sam Snead. Since opening in 2001, it has paired natural elevation changes with a classic layout true to Snead's vision. A recent renovation refined the course while preserving its original character, solidifying Poplar Grove as one of the premier venues in the region.
Tee times will be announced closer to the competition. Live scoring will be available via Clippd.
