NORMAN – The seven-time and reigning national champion Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was tabbed as the No. 1 team in the preseason poll, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) announced Tuesday.
The Sooners received 39 first place votes for 1,960 points to claim the top spot, followed by No. 2 LSU (1,859 points), No. 3 Florida (1,804), No. 4 UCLA (1,784) and No. 5 Utah (1,751). First-place votes were split among five other teams: LSU (five), Florida (four), UCLA (four), Utah (one) and No. 7 Missouri (two).
This is the eighth time in program history that Oklahoma was voted as the No. 1 team in the preseason poll and fourth straight season. The Sooners have been ranked in the top five by the WCGA for 16 consecutive seasons. Since head coach K.J. Kindler's first season in 2007, the Sooners have been ranked in the preseason top 10 every year.
The competitive slate has 12 of OU's regular season opponents ranked in the poll, including eight in the top 10. The Sooners will face three of the top five teams in the first meet of the season at the annual Sprouts Farmer's Market Collegiate Quad. This year's quad meet features the Sooners alongside No. 2 LSU, No. 4 UCLA and No. 5 Utah. This marks the third season in a row that OU will face three top five teams within the first two weeks of the season.
OU welcomes four top 25 teams to Lloyd Noble Center in 2026 with one of the most anticipated dual meets of the season slated for Feb. 20 against No. 2 LSU. Also traveling to Norman are No. 8 Alabama, No. 11 Auburn and No. 12 Georgia.
On the road, the Sooners face six ranked teams including four preseason top 10 SEC foes. OU travels to No. 3 Florida, No. 7 Missouri, No. 9 Kentucky, No. 10 Arkansas and No. 14 Michigan and faces No. 18 Arizona at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth Texas.
Coming off a season that saw the Sooners bring home their seventh national championship, the 2026 squad returns the No. 1 all-arounder in the nation in Faith Torrez, alongside All-Americans Addison Fatta, Elle Mueller and Lily Pederson. The Sooners brought in the No. 1 signing class in the nation in Nicole Desmond, Mackenzie Estep, Ella Murphy, Kamila Pawlak and Blakely Roten.
