Sooners Dominate Second Half in 102-66 Season-Opening Win

November 03, 2025 | Men's Basketball

NORMAN — Trailing 49-45 with 18:30 left in the second half, the Oklahoma men's basketball team used a 32-3 run to pull away in an eventual 102-66 win over Saint Francis on Monday night at Lloyd Noble Center in the season opener for both teams.

OU led by as many as eight points (17-9 and 19-11) in the first half but took just a 45-44 advantage to halftime, before Saint Francis, which made the NCAA Tournament last year, scored the first five points of the second half for its largest lead of the game.

That's when the Sooners clamped down on defense and heated up offensively. The 32-3 run covered 8:43 of clock and was spurred by redshirt freshman Kuol Atak. In his collegiate debut, the forward scored 13 points in a span of 4:07. The spurt included three 3-pointers, a layup and a dunk.

Atak, who finished 4 of 8 from behind the arc, scored a team-high 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench. He was joined in double figures in points by four teammates, who each finished with at least 14 points. They were super senior center Mohamed Wague (16), super senior guard Nijel Pack (16), junior guard Xzayvier Brown (16) and senior forward Tae Davis (14).

Wague's 16 points marked a career high and his 10 rebounds resulted in his second-career double-double. He added a career-high-tying three blocks, two assists and a steal in just under 25 minutes.

Pack drained four of his nine 3-point tries and added three assists and a career-high three blocked shots. He entered the game with just 17 blocks over the last five seasons.

Davis was 8 of 12 from the field, pulled down eight rebounds and logged three assists.

Brown registered game highs of six assist and three steals, and was 2 of 4 from long distance and 4 of 4 at the charity stripe.

Redshirt senior guard Jeff Nwankwo, playing his first career Division I game, came off the bench and finished with eight points, nine boards five assists and two steals in 23 minutes.

After falling behind 49-45 early in the second half, the Sooners outscored Saint Francis 57-17 over the final 18:21. The Red Flash shot 50% from the field in the first half but just 27% in the second. For the game, OU outshot SFU 56% to 41% and posted a 42-33 rebounding advantage.
