Sooners Fall to Ole Miss

October 25, 2025 | Football

NORMAN — Despite career days from wide receiver Isaiah Sategna III and running back Xavier Robinson, No. 13 Oklahoma fell to No. 8 Ole Miss 34-26 on Saturday at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

The Sooners (6-2, 2-2 SEC) erased a 12-point halftime deficit behind a Tate Sandell field goal and two third-quarter rushing touchdowns from Robinson, but the Rebels (7-1, 4-1 SEC) controlled the fourth quarter to hand OU its second loss of the season.

Robinson totaled a career-high 109 rushing yards on nine carries, including scoring runs of 65 and 9 yards, while Sategna posted a personal-best 131 receiving yards, highlighted by a 76-yard touchdown reception from quarterback John Mateer early in the second quarter.

Mateer completed 17 of 31 passes for 223 yards and one touchdown. Deion Burks added four receptions for 32 yards, and tight end Jaren Kanak had three receptions for 30 yards.

After Ole Miss jumped out to a 22-10 halftime advantage, Oklahoma surged ahead 26-25 late in the third quarter before the Rebels answered with a pair of fourth-quarter scores – including an eight-yard touchdown pass from Trinidad Chambliss to Trace Bruckler and a 37-yard field goal by Lucas Carneiro.

The OU defense kept the Sooners within reach, forcing a turnover on downs early in the third quarter and limiting Ole Miss to 116 rushing yards on 41 attempts. Kip Lewis led the defense with a game-high 12 tackles, while Robert Spears-Jennings tallied 11 stops and a forced fumble. Kendal Daniels posted 2.5 tackles for loss, and Marvin Jones Jr. registered the Sooners' lone sack.

Sandell connected on both of his field goal attempts from 42 yards out. He is 14 of 15 on the season and has made 14 straight field goal attempts.

Robinson's 65-yard touchdown run was a career long and OU's longest rushing touchdown since the 2021 season.

Linebacker Kip Lewis finished with team and season highs of 12 tackles, including one for loss, Robert Spears-Jennings notched a season-high 11 tackles, including one for loss and a forced fumble, and Owen Heinecke logged career highs of eight tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and two pass breakups.

The Sooners registered 14 tackles for loss, their most since the 2023 season. It was OU's sixth straight game with double-digit tackles for loss, extending a program-long streak that dates back to at least the 1976 season.

Oklahoma travels to Knoxville, Tenn., next Saturday to face Tennessee. Kickoff is set for 2:30, 6, or 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC or ESPN. The game time and TV network is expected to be announced Saturday night.
