Wrestling Heads to Southern Scuffle

January 03, 2025 | Wrestling

NORMAN — The No. 21 Oklahoma wrestling team will open the new year at the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 4-5, presented by Compound Sportswear. The Sooners make their second trip to the Scuffle, with the two-day event taking place inside McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Twenty-two teams are competing in the annual tournament, which began in 2003. Army leads the field with eight wrestlers in the top-six spots of their brackets. It's followed by Oklahoma with seven, Virginia Tech with five as well as Little Rock, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado and Virginia with four each. The Sooners have two No. 1 seeds along with Army, Northern Colorado and Virginia Tech.

Seventeen wrestlers will represent Oklahoma at the Southern Scuffle, in what is widely considered one of the toughest regular season tournaments in collegiate wrestling. It will mark the second consecutive season OU will start the year at the event, and the Sooners will look to improve on two individual titles and a runner-up team finish from the 2024 tournament.

FloWrestling subscribers can watch the action live, and live scoring will be available through FloArena.
